The weekly WhoScored betting tipster is back but with a slightly different angle this time around, focusing on a number of enticing tips across Europe to mull over. With the Premier League not in action this weekend due to FA Cup duties, we've looked at games from the rest of the top 5 leagues and a selection of bets that should bring a profit.
We start with three table-toppers that we're tipping to strengthen their positions this weekend in La Liga, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga respectively.
Win to Nil
Barcelona vs Osasuna
In Spain, Barcelona have cantered off to a seemingly unassailable lead at the top of La Liga, 8 points clear of Atletico Madrid and a full 15 ahead of fierce rivals Real, despite defeat to Sociedad last time out. The Catalans are looking to bounce back against an Osasuna side in the relegation zone, and a win to nil at the Nou Camp is more than tempting.
The visiting side have the worst record in the league in front of goal (16 scored) and somewhat unbelievably they have netted just once in their last 9 games against Barca away from home. That goal came in a shock victory back in 2009, but since then the current league leaders have gone on to score 16 goals in 4 home games against Osasuna without conceding at the other end. Barca Win to Nil - @1.61.
PSG vs Lille
Big spenders PSG have finally reached the summit of the Ligue 1 table with their success grounded in a phenomenal defensive record of late. The Parisian club have not conceded a league goal in 544 minutes (just over 6 matches) and despite facing a Lille side looking to turn their disappointing season around, Ibra and co. should have the edge in a competitive encounter.
We're tipping the hosts to stretch their remarkable run without conceding a goal and heap more misery on Rudi Garcia's men on Sunday. The hosts haven't conceded to Lille in 3 of their last 4 league meetings at the Parc des Princes, with the only goals they have let past them in said encounters coming in a 2-2 draw in the visitors’ title winning season of 2010/11. PSG to Win to Nil - @2.30.
Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich
Our final tip in the win to nil stakes is Bayern Munich as they make the trip to Stuttgart, with the hosts’ form having been very inconsistent thus far. Heynckes side have romped to a 9-point lead at the top in the meantime and are all-but assured of regaining the Bundesliga title from Dortmund with a handy combination of a ruthless attack and steely backline. Their records for both goals scored (46) and goals conceded (7) are the best in the league by some margin.
Perhaps most interestingly, however, their record away from the Allianz has been better than that at their home ground, winning 7 of 8 games on the road and drawing the other. The 1-1 stalemate at Nurnberg represents the only goal they have conceded away from home all season and they could add to 7 wins without conceding on the road on Sunday against a Stuttgart side whose 11 home goals is only more than four other teams. Bayern Munich to Win to Nil @2.37.
If you fancy all of these tips to come in, a punt on the treble with bet365 gives odds of @8.82.
Best of the Rest
Parma are unbeaten at home all season so a bet on the visiting team may seem strange, but with Napoli flying high in second the odds @2.38 for an away victory is sizeable. The Partenopei are unbeaten in four and haven't lost at Parma in Serie A since 2001, winning 3 of the 4 meetings since then.
Elsewhere in Italy a stuttering Fiorentina side make the trip to Catania, who are now only 4 points behind the Viola in the table. Although neither side have struggled for goals this season, tradition tells us that this is likely to be another tight game. The last 7 meetings between the sides have seen under 2.5 goals scored and odds on a repeat are high @1.85.
For our final, and perhaps safest tip of the week we're banking on there being a winner between the two sides when Atletico Madrid make the trip to San Mames to face Bilbao. In 15 encounters in all competitions, dating back to 2005, the teams have never played out a draw and the double chance odds on Athletic/Atletico to win @1.36 are modest but reflect its likelihood.
