Team News
CSKA Moscow
Man Utd
- Leonid Slutsky will be able to recall upon the services of Alan Dzagoev after he missed their 3-2 win over Ural S.R at the weekend through suspension. The home side may be without Bibras Natkho, however.
- Roman Eremenko could fill in for any Natkho absence.
- Zoran Tosic spent a year at Manchester United from 2009-10 and could line up against his former side here. He will have a point to prove.
- Louis van Gaal may be tempted to field almost the same team that comfortably dispatched Everton 3-0 at the weekend. Although, he may go with Michael Carrick from the start and give Bastian Schweinsteiger a rest this time around.
- Phil Jones and Chris Smalling coped with the threat dealt by Romelu Lukaku with ease and could be given another start together in Russia, which would see Daley Blind drop to the bench once again.
- Memphis, who has generally fared better in Europe for United, may still miss out after struggling in recent weeks. This could see Ander Herrera given another start further forward after impressing at Goodison Park with Wayne Rooney up front and Anthony Martial starting on the wing.
- Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair and Ashley Young are the only players expected not to feature in Russia.
but we got more possesion.
@glenbayern- Van Gaal liked the ref's whistling. That's a euphemism if I ever heard one!
I just want to ask Rooney fans that what exactly he is doing on the pitch? Far from what he used to be.
Yawn! Possibly the most boring match I have ever watched.
@mikers135- Utd weren't too bad against Everton tbf. I don't think it helps rotating players. Not sure why Valencia is considered an upgrade to Darmian after 1 bad game (and that against an on-fire Arsenal attack). Martial playing LW when he's done very well in the 9 was another strange one. I also think against CSKA they could've dropped Schweinsteiger and played Herrera there with Mata in the 10.
@mikers135 It`s a van Gaal team, what doyou expect ?
Volleyball team MU
@Kralin I thought more of handball ...
CSKA IS GOING TO WIN :)
Oh and Smalling MotM.
A stodgy 1-0 Utd win.
@SteveHyland- I got the stodgy bit right!
1-2
CSKA will not lose, maybe a draw [1-1].
Andrei Kanchelskis (Loose translation). "I have to admit that this United is in no way the same team CSKA faced in 2009. I watched the game with Everton from the stands. Despite the victory, the game from Manchester left me with strange feelings. Six years ago, under Ferguson the team was much stronger. CSKA can only beat Man U if they bring max.concentration and approach the game with care. CSKA have to play aggressively and vie for the ball in all areas of the pitch. There is nothing to be afraid of, yes this is Manchester United, but so what? Yes, it's a big, major club, but there is nothing particularly scary about them. CSKA is going to be playing at home, in front of their fans, and that always helps. For Leonid Slutsky, it is absolutely critical to score goals, especially as they have a good attack in Musa and Doumbia. The Chances (for CSKA), as seems to me, are not bad. I think that the game will end in a draw. In this game there will definitely be goals, so I predict 2-2"
Hope Man Utd's many shots will produce more goals since they shoot much, but less goal in CL. Beside that, CSKA Moscow defenders is powerful against pace players. Let see how Martial, Depay and Mata can pass through easily. However Herrera decisive passes can be a chance for ManU to score a goal.
CSKA win or draw
MANCHESTER UNITED'S BIGGEST PROBLEM IS DEFENSE THEY CANT STOP FAST AND SKILLFUL PLAYER THEY DONT HAVE THAT INSTICT. SCHWEINSTEIGER IS A SECOND PROBLEM, HE HASNT GET USED TO THE TEAM HIS FORM IS WORST AND NOTHING COME SPECIAL FROM HIM ALSO I CAN ADD DEPAY TO THIS LIST TOO. PLEASE DO NOT COMPARE THIS MATCHES TO THEIR LEAGUE MATCHES YOU WILL STUMBLE ALREADY.. CSKA MOSCOW IS VERY MOBILE AND FAST TEAM THEY CAN COMMUNICATE HIGHLY ON THE PITCH THEY KNOW EACH OTHER VERY WELL AND AS WE SAW ON THE PSV MATCH THEY SCORE 3 GOALS AND M.UNITED LOST TO PSV ON THE AWAY GAME CSKA MOSCOW MIGHT NOT HAVE EXPENSIVE PLAYER BUT THEY ARE WHOLE WORK AS A TEAM.. BUT M.UNITED STILL MISSING LOTS OF PIECES THAT IS GONNA COME IN PART IN TIME. BUT THIS IS CL I GO WITH BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE AND CSKA TO WIN
Mu Win or Draw
Man U may have been getting away in the league with playing rubbish, but that won't last in Europe. CSKA 3 - 1 Man U.
@What4 Don't think you can say they're playing rubbish in general. The display against Everton was really promising.
2-0 United
CSKA win. Doumbia and Musa can wreak havoc
real group of death situation is here
I don't believe on that prediction. CSKA defending skill isn't good and Manchester United has a powerful attack. Maybe a Manchester United 3-2 or 3-1 win.
short win for Man.U here but both team will score. maybe 1-2 or 2-3
draw, Man Utd will try to hold lead to be fresh for Manchester derby, and will be punished by late equalizer
Cska win because the weather is very very cold .
Memphis to start here? Too continue his good form in the UCL
"United's biggest difficulty is likely to be their ability to adapt to the harsh conditions in Russia and the artificial pitch". There is no artificial pitch! the game is at Arena Khimki with natural grass...seriously half the people meant to be analyzing this game still think CSKA play at Luzhniki stadium. Look up Desso Grassmaster...Manchester United even have the SAME surface .
CSKA Moscow are always unpredictable and It will not be surprised if they beat man United
Again it will not be easy , but I thought the same thing in the game against Everton.UNITED!!!
I hope CSKA beat this American money team who play unattractive football on a daily basis.
@Beastador closet homosexual? Every comment you've written is very angry and insults English football...... Yet you keep reading and commenting on it!
@Beastador Anyone care to explain why they disagree? Or am I wrong, UTD do play attractive football?
@Beastador did you watch any other teams play this year? because I've watch a lot and Barcelona, Real, PSG and Atletico play as "ugly" as United, it's still the start of the season and teams haven't clicked yet and the "tiki taka" is dead so the modern football style is not small passes. plus if you watched united's last game in the cl so from Wolfsburg goal to the 60th minuute United showed brilliant attacking football. about you calling it "American money team" United did start to waste money after Ferguson left, but still we have more youth players and young players than any other big team but Barcelona. (I'm not an english speaker)
@galgadot1818 I will be honest I don't watch much english football but when I do I find it unentertaining. RM and barca last season played attractive football. I don't see why UTD can't do the same, its not like money is a problem for them.
Unlike last season where CSKA heavily relied on Natkho and Eremenko these two have not been in glistening form. Natkho is currently out whereas Eremenko having mostly worked through an injury that he's had (and been playing with) since the start of the season is still lacking sharpness. Compensating for this has been the hungry return of Doumbia and the increasingly effective Musa. Dzagoev is a doubt but he has been playing well and strengthens the midfield with the current problems there. Panchenko might play, he has taken his opportunity to start well and been in good form. CSKA will probably concede but even with all their injury problems they have shown themselves to be very industrious this season. They are in excellent form but as the Wolfsburg game showed they cannot always play through their problems. This should be a good test for both teams and a very interesting game. I believe CSKA can win but it'll need patience, good luck and maybe outscoring rather than outclassing Man U
@Marshavin *Natkho thankfully returned from his serious injury after I'd written this (quicker than expected) but he will not take part in the game. Everybody else is preparing for the game.
