Team News

  • The likes of Ferdinand, Rooney and Nani are all still doubtful, while Phil Jones definitely misses out with an ankle injury.
  • Anders Lindegaard is out with an ankle injury but David De Gea will still be dropped after a poor performance in the cup defeat to Liverpool. Therefore either Kuszczak or Amos will start in goal.
  • Javier Hernandez will hope to start either in place of or alongside Danny Welbeck up front after a disrupted and disappointing campaign thus far.
  • Tony Pulis has very few injury concerns, with only Mamady Sidibe set to miss the trip to United.
  • The Stoke boss could rotate his squad a little despite a convincing cup win over Derby last time out, with Sorensen likely to resume his usual number 1 spot in the league.
  • Cameron Jerome could drop out of the side despite scoring against Derby, with Delap, Shotton, Pennant and Palacios all waiting in the wings if Walters reverts to a more familiar role up front alongside Peter Crouch

Prediction

  • Stoke have proven to be tough opponents for United in recent fixtures, despite failing to win any of the last 7, losing 6. They have scored in each of their last 3 games against the Champions and not lost by more than a single goal in any of them, including a 1-1 draw earlier in the season.
  • However, United have averaged 3 goals a game at Old Trafford (33) and host a Stoke side who have been surprisingly leaky at the back on their travels, conceding almost 2 per game (20).
  • The visitors have also netted just 8 goals away from the Britannia Stadium, and they may need more than 1 to overcome the hosts on Tuesday, which seems unlikely.
  • PREDICTION: Man United win 2-0

  • It's a young back-5 for Manchester tonight. Evans doesn't look that solid and Rafael can be rash. I think Amos will probably start ahead of Kuszczak though. Crouch and Walters may be able to exploit the inexperience on show

  • Good to see Hernandez getting a chance up front, he was immense last season

  • Rafael and Valencia have linked up really well this season, with both being able to interchange at will, and being against Wilson, I'm expecting a lot of attacks down the right for United

  • Could be the best possible time for Tony Pullis' side to face Man Utd, on the back of a big loss against Liverpool and with a lot of injuries. Could very well be an upset at Old Trafford tonight. 2-1 Stoke
