Team News

  • Wes Brown and David Vaughan both picked up injuries in the FA Cup and are likely to miss Wednesday's game, along with Lee Cattermole who missed the game against his old club Middlesbrough.
  • Jack Colback and Frazier Richardson made returns from injury from the bench with the former more likely to start due to necessity and cup goalscorer Campbell set to be eased back into action.
  • Michael Turner and John O'Shea were the only available options at centre-back, with Kilgallon and Bramble also out, so Martin O'Neill brought in former Liverpool defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos on loan.
  • The Ulsterman also brought in Man City left-back Wayne Bridge to serve as competition for Kieran Richardson.
  • Both Simeon Jackson and Grant Holt scored in the cup win over West Brom and could keep Steve Morison, who was rested at the weekend, out of the side.
  • Marc Tierney was fit to make the bench after a spell on the sidelines and could start at left-back, though Naughton and Drury are also options at full-back.
  • Lambert could start the same midfield that ensured progression in the FA Cup, with Johnson, Hoolahan, Surman and new signing Johnny Howson all alternatives.
  • Norwich completed the signing of Peterborough defender Ryan Bennett on deadline day and he is in contention for a place at centre-back.

Prediction

  • In 4 of the last 5 league meetings between these two sides the hosts have run at 1-0 winners, with Norwich bucking the trend earlier in the season to deservedly win 2-1.
  • Sunderland have been much improved since then, however, and will be favourites at home despite a number of injury problems having won 5 of their last 8 league matches under Martin O'Neill, only losing to Spurs and Chelsea.
  • However, Norwich are unbeaten in 4 away games in the league and will hope to make it 5 by soaking up the pressure and hitting a weakened Sunderland defence on the break.
  • PREDICTION: Draw 1-1
