Team News

  • Gareth Bale was rested in the FA Cup against Watford with a slight thigh strain but should be fit to face Wigan, while Lennon and Defoe are doubts.
  • Ledley King may continue to be rested with a tough run of games ahead to be fit for, so Michael Dawson could keep his place at the back.
  • Adebayor returns to the side having been ineligible to face parent club Man City and will be supported by Rafael van der Vaart as usual.
  • Senegal's surprise early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations means that Mohamed Diame could be back in time to face Tottenham, though his return may come a little too late.
  • Elsewhere there are injuries to the likes of Maloney and Alcaraz, while David Jones is a doubt with a calf problem.
  • Wigan could play 5 at the back away to tough opposition, as they have in the past, with Stam (right) and Figueroa (left) acting as wing-backs and Emmerson Boyce potentially joining Caldwell and Gohouri in the centre.

Prediction

  • Having beaten Wigan 9-1 and 3-0 back in the 2009/10 season Tottenham have found it a little harder to break them down since, scoring just twice in their last 3 games against the Latics, with both coming in a narrow 2-1 win over a 10-man Wigan side earlier in the season.
  • However, Spurs haven't lost at home since their first game at White Hart Lane this season and have only conceded 4 goals in the 10 games since the defeat to City at home, while Wigan have scored just 9 in 11 away from the DW Stadium.
  • To further back the assumption that this game will only end one way, Tottenham have scored almost two goals a game at home (21) while Wigan have conceded over 2 goals a game away from home (24).
  • PREDICTION: Tottenham win 2-0
