Team News

  • Tony Pulis' side lacked any real threat against United last time out and the manager may make some changes to his attack.
  • Jonathan Walters will hope to start up front again, having played on the wing of late, while Cameron Jerome is vying for a place with Peter Crouch and Kenwyne Jones.
  • Stoke may look to restore one of their long throw specialists to the side at home, with Delap and Shotton in competition to start, while Glenn Whelan could return to the midfield.
  • Martin O'Neill should name the same side that ran out convincing 3-0 winners against Norwich last time out, with Frazier Campbell now having scored in successive games since his return from a long term injury.
  • The manager was dealt a blow in midweek after hearing that Wes Brown would be out for around two months through injury.
  • Lee Cattermole could be in contention for a start but won't replace the midfield duo of Gardner and Colback based on Wednesday night's display.

Prediction

  • Though they remain in the top half of the table, Stoke have been quietly slipping down the table, and will look to this game for a chance to turn it around. Sunderland, however, have been on a great run of form since Martin O'Neill took over having won an average of 2.11 points per game under him - a rate high enough to win last season's Premier League.
  • Sunderland have however, been much better at home than on their travels and the Brittania is always a tough place to go, so these two could well cancel each other out.
  • PREDICTION: 1-1 Draw
