Team News

  • Hugo Rodallega was dropped to the bench amid reports that he may leave the club on deadline day but now that moment has passed, the forward may return to the line-up.
  • Franco Di Santo was subject of a horrible challenge from Assou-Ekotto last time out, and is doubtful along with centre-back Antolin Alcaraz.
  • Mohamed Diame could return to the side having come back from international duty after Senegal were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations at the group stages.
  • David Moyes must decide whether to reward the same side who picked up a great win over leaders Man City last time out or introduce his two new signings from the kick-off.
  • One suspects that both Nikica Jelavic and Everton old-boy Steven Pienaar could start this weekend, with the former perhaps the more likely, replacing Denis Stracquarlursi.
  • Elsewhere, Tony Hibbert replaced Shane Duffy in the heart of the backline and is likely to keep his place alongside Johnny Heitinga.

Prediction

  • Time is running out for Wigan Athletic. They are bottom of the league, without a win in 9 games and 5 points from safety. They were distinctly abject at White Hart Lane in midweek and looked devoid of ideas, but credit to them for retaining their passing game even against Spurs. Even worse news for Wigan is that they have the worst home record in the league, and face the third side to beat Manchester City all season.
  • Everton worked their socks off to beat Man City in the week, and though they were somewhat fortunate to do so, they will undoubtedly have been buoyed by such a result and come to Wigan full of confidence.
  • Wigan have won none of these sides' last 6 meetings in the Premier League and have only scored 3 times in those games. They are looking increasingly likely to go down and a defeat here will do them no favours.
  • PREDICTION: Everton win 1-0
