Team News

  • Real Madrid managed an incredible comeback in the cup, coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2. However, the two goals conceded may eliminate the ‘merengues’ if Málaga can get a favourable result at home.
  • Centre-back Pepe picked up a red card against Sevilla and will serve his one-game suspension in this match.
  • Ramos, who missed the cup match with a muscle injury, has a good chance of returning for this game.
  • Midfielder Di Maria, on the other hand, is less likely to return against Granada as he still recovering from his muscle injury.
  • Defender Carvalho, who has recovered from his back and knee problems, is still weeks away from match fitness according to Mourinho.
  • Lass had an impressive second half performance at right back against Málaga and will probably start in place of Arbeloa, who had a rather poor match.
  • Granada had a great defensive record in 2011, conceding only 16 goals in La Liga. However, the Andalucian’s also struggled in front of goal, scoring only 10 times.
  • Playmaker Franco Jara will miss this match after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Levante.
  • Centre-back Diakhaté will probably play his last match for Granada, against Madrid, before going the African Cup of Nations with Senegal.
  • Granada took advantage of the extra days of rest during the winter break as they don’t have any absentees due to injuries for this match.

Prediction

  • Real Madrid will want to start 2012 with a win, putting pressure to Barcelona who will face the Catalan derby six points behind Madrid if Mou’s side gets the three points here.
  • Granada are a great defensive side and they are surely going to be tested here against the most offensive team in La Liga. This may be too much of a challenge for Fabri’s men.
  • Expect an interesting match as Granada have proved before they can contain good offensive sides. However, Real Madrid should have enough to beat this team.
  • WHOSCORED.COM Predicts: Real Madrid win 2-0

  • You can't really look much further than the league leaders for this one. Granada have a good defence, but they don't put many in the back of the net! Real Madrid on the other hand...
