Team News

  • Mario Suarez picked up a suspension-incurring yellow card in the first leg of this tie, so he misses out. Paulo Assuncao and Luis Perea are one yellow card away from suspension.
  • Silvio is still doubtful. Though he was on the bench at the weekend he did not come out and it is unclear whether he is fit yet.
  • Lopez and Costa are still out.
  • Atletico could field a similar team to that which played in the first leg.
  • Senad Lulic is back after missing the last game in the group stage through suspension, but he is struggling with an injury and may miss out once again as a result.
  • Hernanes and Matuzalem 1 yellow card away from suspension.
  • Cana, Dias, Rocchi, Mauri and Biava are all set to miss out through injury.
  • Needing goals a plenty, Lazio coul field an attacking lineup.

Prediction

  • After the first leg of this tie, which ended with a 3-1 win for the Spaniards, both teams suffered something of a European hangover as they returned to domestic action. Atletico stuttered to a 1-1 draw at Sporting Gijon, while Lazio fell to a resounding 5-1 defeat at Palermo. Both sides may therefore consider rotating their lineups here with the tie as good as over.
  • 3 away goals for Atletico in the first leg gave them one foot in the next round of the competition and they will be looking to complete the job here. They are in great form under their new coach and should by all means consider the Europa League a competition they could challenge for. With dangerman Falcao scoring 2 in the first leg, Lazio will have to bear his threat in mind, but will of course have to concentrate on going all out to score the 3 goals they need as a minimum in order to stand any chance of progressing.
