Team News

  • Novara's Michel Morganella and Lucerne duo Adrian Winter and Alain Wiss have all received their first call-ups to the senior international squad and will hope to feature, though Wolfsburg's Ricardo Rodriguez will miss the game through injury.
  • Youngsters Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka will both be playing Germany next season after sealing moves to Bayern and Gladbach respectively and will be keen to impress.
  • Per Mertesacker missed the last half of the season with Arsenal through injury but was included in the provisional squad for the Euros. He may be rested for as long as possible to ensure that he is fit and probably wont play any part here.
  • Joachim Low may allow the Bayern Munich players in the squad more time to rest, with the likes of Neuer, Boateng, Lahm, Kroos, Schweinsteiger and Gomez all coming through 120 minutes of the Champions League final.
  • The likes of ter-Stegen and Reus could be rewarded for fine seasons at Gladbach, while Lars Bender may be tested at right-back with Howedes moving central.

Prediction

  • With so many of Bayern's players included in the Germany squad, the morale in the camp may be a little low after their tiring defeat against Chelsea in the Champions League final.
  • Low will need to rally his troops before the Euros so should name a strong line-up in this match despite potentially leaving out Bayern's stars, hoping that a win will restore confidence not only in the players but also the fans.
  • No matter what side is chosen, Germany will be favourites but must be wary of Switzerland's threat down the wings and they should know all about Shaqiri and Barnetta, with Lichsteiner also a key player for the hosts.
