Team News

  • Saint-Etienne have no new injury concerns but will still be without a number of players who are yet to recover from fitness problems.
  • Ismael Diomande and Banel Nicolita have still not recovered from thigh injuries, Kurt Zouma has not quite shook off an ankle problem.
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also a doubt with a thigh problem, but manager Christophe Galtier will hope that the striker is able to recover after they drew a blank in his absence against Ajaccio.
  • Lyon are missing a trio of key players ahead of the short journey to Saint-Etienne.
  • Dejan Lovren will miss out with a thigh injury, while Jimmy Briand has a hamstring problem.
  • Striker Lisandro is out due to a calf problem and manager Remi Garde may well be tempted to stick with the same side that beat champions Montpellier last weekend.

Prediction

  • Saint-Etienne and Lyon meet on Sunday evening in what is perhaps the biggest Rhone derby for a number of years.
  • Les Verts sit in third place in the table after an extremely impressive start to the season, and can move within two points of their local rivals, who are at the top of the division 15 games into the season.
  • Bafetimbi Gomis has been the leading marksman for Les Gones this term, and the striker who was signed from Saint-Etienne will be looking to add to his tally of 10 goals and help maintain his side's position at the summit of the league.
  • Gomis, Grenier and Malbranque are likely to feature heavily in what should be an extremely intense game. However, backed by a fierce home crowd at the Stade Geoffroy Guichard, and with talents such as Romain Hamouma and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang heading the attack, Christophe Galtier's men may well be able to take all three points and keep themselves in the thick of the title race.
