Team News

  • Montpellier will be without Marco Estrada, who has a thigh problem, while fellow midfielders Benjamin Stambouli, Jamel Saihi and Joris Marveaux are all unavailable.
  • Garry Bocaly is still out with a hip problem, Karim Ait-Fana is also sidelined, and Younes Belhanda and Abdelhamid El Kaoutari are both in South Africa for the African Cup of Nations.
  • Cyril Jeunechamp has been banned for a year and will not play till next season.
  • Defender Yaya Banana is still on the sidelines for Sochaux due to a calf injury, while Pierrick Cros, Thierry Doubai and Sanjin Prcic are all out with knee problems.
  • Ryad Boudebouz and Kalilou Traore are absent due to their participation in the African Cup of Nations, but Joseph Lopy returns from suspension.

Prediction

  • Montpellier take on Sochaux at the Stade de la Mosson hoping to exact revenge for their Coupe de France defeat in midweek.
  • Les Lionceaux earned a win over the champions thanks to a late goal from Yassin Mikari, and Eric Hely's men will be hoping for a similar result this weekend as they aim to pull further away from the relegation zone.
  • Montpellier have endured a disastrous season as defending champions and can only hope to somehow salvage a European spot from their season. However, they will have to do that without centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who departed for Premier League side Newcastle United earlier in the week.
  • La Palliade will be hoping to prove a point following the departure of the captain, however with confidence likely to be low among Rene Girard's men, it would be foolish to rule out another strong result for the visitors.
