Team News

  • Captain Tomas Rosicky is still a major doubt and coach Bilek may field an unchanged side to the one that upset co-hosts Poland last time out having confirmed that the Arsenal man will start from the bench.
  • In that case, Daniel Kolar will keep his place in a midfield anchored by the experienced Hubschmann and Plasil.
  • Key man Michal Kadlec will continue at centre-back, though there is no doubt that the star player for the Czech's in this tournament has been young winger Vaclav Pilar.
  • Paulo Bento is unlikely to change a side that were so impressive on the counter-attack in a deserved victory over the Dutch last time out, with no fresh injury concerns of note.
  • Therefore Postiga will keep his place up front, with Oliveira coming on as his replacement in the second half as has been the norm in the tournament so far.
  • While Ronaldo finally came to life last time out, Portugal's marauding full-backs have impressed in the tournament and will look to support the attacks once again.

Prediction

  • Although Poland were the lowest ranked side going into the tournament, the Czech's surprised many by overcoming the pressure from the crowd to pick up a deserved victory at the weekend and in Vaclav Pilar they seem to have a real livewire.
  • This game could well be won on the wings, as is the case in most games involving Cristiano Ronaldo, but Portugal cannot over commit as the Czech's have also proven that they can be extremely effective on the counter.
  • There is no doubt that Bento's side have more quality and will be favourites, and if they can replicate their form from the Netherlands game, Portugal should be set for another semi-final appearance at the Euros.
