Team News

  • Samba Diakite is QPR's only absentee after the midfielder returned home to France, having reveled that he is suffering from depression.
  • QPR otherwise have a fully fit squad and have plenty of new signings that will be battling it out for places in the starting XI. There are more players than there are spaces in the first team, with the likes of Stephane Mbia possibly set to miss out on a midfield spot, and instead will probably play at centre-back alongside Anton Ferdinand.
  • Julio Cesar is available and will be pushing Rob Green for the starting spot between the posts.
  • Mark Hughes will probably opt for a 5-man midfield against Chelsea, with Bobby Zamora leading the line up front.
  • Ashley Cole withdrew from the England squad for the World Cup qualifiers last week, while John Terry came off injured during the first of those matches and missed the subsequent draw with Ukraine. Both are doubts for this game, with Ryan Bertrand and Gary Cahill on standby if either is unavailable.
  • However, both players are the type that will play through the pain whenever possible, and if they are over the worst of it they will probably feature.
  • Marko Marin is still injured and is yet to make his Chelsea debut.

Prediction

  • This London clash sees the only Premier League team with a 100% record - first-placed Chelsea - travel a short distance to Loftus Road to face second-bottom QPR, who have the worst defensive record in the league. When the sides met in April at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea ran out 6-1 winners, and given the respective starts to the season these teams have had, a repeat scoreline wouldn't seem all too unlikely.
  • However, Mark Hughes' side is full of new signings and they will need time to gel together as a unit, but when they do get going, they will be certainly form a good side that will finish the season higher up the table than they are at the moment.
  • However, as things stand, the likes of Granero and Mbia will still be getting used to the Premier League, while Hoilett and Park will need time to settle in further. Chelsea have hit the ground running and should continue their untarnished record with another victory here, though this one will be a close run thing.

  • @spuds, if you take the fullbacks from the top 5 squads (#5 being Swansea for early form) and throw in Assou-Ekotto for good measure, the average rating is over 7.3. That's excellent [I think]. Better than you might think. Yes, the high ratings might be because these are top teams and in-form teams we're talking about, but when I see the likes of Jenkinson (maybe he's turned a corner?) above 7, I wonder. It'd make sense if fullbacks on top teams got lots of easy possession and had high pass acc %, for instance.

  • @Oscar360 Never thought much of Bertrand anyways. He really had a bad game today.

  • betrand in bad shape..geez..

  • Tight game so far...

  • 2-0 chelsea

  • 0-1

  • By 'outside backs' do you mean full backs? It's probably just cos they've played well? Ivanovic is Chelsea's joint top scorer, Ashley cole has been his usual quality self, and bosingwa's rating is hardly any good at all, so it's not like all full backs just have a good rating!

  • "..., thought this one will be a close run thing."
    Dear god, calm down, Dickens.

Also, why does it seem like the ratings on this site for outside backs on 'top' squads is high? Are they that good, or do they enjoy lots of easy 'counting' stats as opposition concede space to them and/or run all their mindless counter-attacks into dead ends on the sides?

  • Torres hattrick would be great (only for fantasy football haha)

  • i want torres hat trick again...
