Team News

  • Golden boy Oscar stole the headlines in midweek for a brace against Juventus but picked up a knock and could be a doubt for Saturday's game.
  • Daniel Sturridge, along with long term absentee Marko Marin, missed the Champions league encounter through injury and is also a doubt for the Stoke game.
  • Mata could return to replace Oscar, allowing Hazard to move back into the middle, while Azpilicueta and Moses await home debuts for the club and could be in line to feature if Di Matteo decides to rest some players.
  • Matthew Etherington is back fit and will vie for a place on the left wing, meaning Michael Kightly could move to the right. However, against tough opposition Stoke often play five in midfield, with Walters deployed as the right winger.
  • Geoff Cameron was dropped to the bench last time out, with N'Zonzi and Adam both starting. The American's best bet may be to replace Glenn Whelan, but after an impressive point last time out Pulis is unlikely to make unforced changes.
  • The manager will, however, be forced into one, with right-back Andy Wilkinson suspended for three games after being charged with violent conduct by The FA. Ryan Shotton could take his place, or Cameron could drop back into the defence.

Prediction

  • Chelsea have kept clean sheets in 5 of their last 6 matches against Stoke, including each of the last 4 encounters between the sides at Stamford Bridge, so they will be confident despite dropping a lead over Juventus in midweek.
  • Stoke have only scored 4 goals in 4 games so far, while Chelsea have only conceded twice and everything points to a narrow home win this weekend, with Stoke only conceding 4 themselves, drawing all of their matches thus far.
  • Expect the visitors to flood the midfield and try and prevent any freedom to the likes of Hazard and Mata. Eventually Chelsea should break their resolve, but this game could be in the balance for long periods.
