Team News

  • Andre Villas-Boas has a team that has found some form, and he could stick with what seems his preferred XI. It was hinted that he will recall Brad Friedel between the posts after Hugo Lloris played against Aston Villa.
  • Benoit Assou-Ekotto has returned to training earlier than expected after avoiding surgery on his injured knee. However, even in the unlikely event that he is available to play, Jan Vertonghen is likely to remain at left-back with Caulker retaining his place at the heart of the defence.
  • Jake Livermore may return, but he is unlikely to displace Sandro or Dembele.
  • John Terry misses out as he serves the first of his four game suspension, handed to him by the FA over the Anton Ferdinand racism case.
  • Ryan Bertrand and Frank Lampard withdrew from the England squad for the games against San Marino and Poland due to illness and a knee injury, respectively, and neither is likely to start here, but that is not only as a result of their ailments.
  • Roberto Di Matteo has a clear preferred starting team, and will in all likelihood stick with those eleven players for the trip across London.
  • Mata, Hazard and Oscar will again play in behind Fernando Torres up front.

Prediction

  • The two teams that are arguably the most in-form sides in the Premier League meet at White Hart Lane in the early kick off, with Chelsea top having dropped points only once all season and Spurs the only team to have won their last 4 league matches.
  • Spurs have built up some momentum after a slow start to the season, beating Manchester United at Old Trafford before finally keeping their first clean sheet of the campaign against Villa last time out. Spurs have either drawn or won each of their last 5 home league ties against Chelsea, and will be hopeful of a repeat result here.
  • Both sides will, however, have in mind that the last meeting between the two was Chelsea's 5-1 demolition at Wembley in an FA Cup Semi-Final. While we are unlikely to see anything like that happen again, Spurs will have to be careful of letting the game become too open.
