Team News

  • Villa could have a real issue at left-back if Joe Bennett is unable to play after re-opening the gash to his leg sustained at Tottenham last time out, with youngster Enda Stevens potentially the only available natural left-back.
  • Eric Lichaj is suspended after picking up 5 yellows over the course of the season, while both Herd and Baker remain doubtful.
  • Darren Bent is also out with an ankle problem, so the team that won at Sunderland is likely to remain unchanged with the exception of Bennett.
  • Jonny Evans and Nani were both withdrawn during the game in Braga after picking up knocks, though the former should keep his place in the side despite the return of Chris Smalling.
  • The likes of Rafael, Ferdinand and van Persie should all return to the starting XI in what could be an unchanged side to the one that beat Arsenal comfortably last weekend.
  • Despite netting in the Champions League once again, Javier Hernandez may have to make do with a place on the bench, while Ashley Young may well line-up against his former team.

Prediction

  • This fixture is perhaps traditionally the most one-sided in Premier League history in terms of results, with Villa winning just 1 of their previous 33 league matches against United.
  • Ferguson has masterminded an unbeaten run of 16 games at Villa Park, with Wayne Rooney netting 12 times against the Villans, bagging a brace in 4 of his last 8 league matches up against Saturday's opponents.
  • Villa begin a tough run of fixtures this weekend and the three points they picked up last weekend may prove invaluable as they are unlikely to get anything from this game.
