- Newcastle continue to struggle in the injury department, with James Perch now thought to be out for a matter of weeks with a thigh injury.
- They have been further weakened by the confirmation that both Yohan Cabaye and Jonas Gutierrez will both miss the game through injury.
- Up front, both Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba are doubts. Ba has played for the last few weeks with a niggle that has seen him withdraw from the Senegal squad this week, while Cisse was forced off against West Ham last weekend with a back injury.
- Coloccini serves the second of his three match ban, though Cheik Tiote return from his.
- Michael Laudrup should continue with his 4-2-3-1 formation, with Michu playing the lone striker role. Danny Graham has a knock but is expected to be available.
- Chico is again a doubt having missed the last two games due to the dead leg he sustained at the end of October in the Capital One Cup win at Liverpool. Monk will play in his absence.
- Michel Vorm remains injured to Gerhard Tremmel continues between the sticks, while Ki Song-Yeung will also miss out, so Michu may move back deeper with Graham starting up front.
