Team News

  • Romelu Lukaku is ineligible to play against his former club, so Peter Odemwingie should return to the side in what could be Steve Clarke's only personnel change.
  • The head coach could, however, revert to a 4-2-3-1 formation, with the Nigerian on the right flank and Chris Brunt on the left, with Morrison given the free role behind Shane Long.
  • Ben Foster missed the game with Wigan with a groin injury and will continue to miss out, with Boaz Myhill deputising in goal, while Gareth McAuley has a knock which will be assessed before the game.
  • Frank Lampard is likely to remain sidelined, along with John Terry, whose knee injury is not as bad as first feared.
  • Ashley Cole and David Luiz could both be in line for a return, meaning Azpilicueta could drop back to the bench with Ivanovic moving to the right once again, though Cahill could also be the one to miss out.
  • Victor Moses and the as yet unused Marko Marin await chances from the bench but Di Matteo has made it obvious that he will continue to play with Hazard, Mata and Oscar all in the same side.

Prediction

  • A late Gareth McAuley goal was enough to ensure West Brom won this fixture last season and picked up their first ever Premier League points Chelsea having lost all of their previous 11 fixtures against The Blues.
  • Chelsea had netted 31 times during their 11 game winning streak against The Baggies (2.8 per game) before firing a blank at The Hawthorns back in March.
  • The hosts have been excellent in front of their home fans this season, with Steve Clarke immediately endearing himself to the supporters with 5 wins from 6, but this is likely to be a tough test against a Chelsea side looking to get back to winning ways.

  • Please the person that does this rating may have dozed off during the match. Chelsea's two centre-backs were their worst players. Shane Long terrorised Cahill all day long and Luiz, the less said about this wannabe striker, the better for me.

  • so mata and ivanovic and oscar all aren't playing. does di matteo even think about fantasy managers? i've got mata and ivanovic on my team.

  • @kelevra very true. Chelsea will drop points...

  • this is a complicated match, Chelsea will play against Juventus on Tuesday. WBA in good shape especially at home.
