Team News

  • Paul Lambert may well make a few changes after the 5-0 defeat to Man City last week, though injuries are still against him with Bennett and Bent likely to remain sidelined and Richard Dunne not match fit.
  • Nathan Baker has fully recovered from injury, however, and could be an option to replace Stevens at left-back, while Darren Bent is back fit and will hope to start alongside Benteke.
  • Elsewhere Lambert may turn to experience over youth, with the likes of El Ahmadi and Holman hoping to return to the fold at the expense of Westwood and Weimann.
  • Although Andre Santos is a doubt after missing the midweek game with Montpellier, Arsenal have Gibbs back available so their usual backline should be restored.
  • Theo Walcott is also a doubt with a persistent shoulder problem but should be in contention to line-up in what could be the first full strength XI of the season for Arsene Wenger.
  • With Diaby the only definite absentee who may challenge for a starting berth when all are fit, Arsenal fans will be excited at the prospect of having all of their best players available again.

Prediction

  • Aston Villa haven't picked up a home victory against Arsenal in 13 attempts and have only won at Villa Park twice in their last 18 league games.
  • Villa will look to keep their impressive defensive record from the first half of matches but need improve dramatically when coming out after the interval, and there are often late goals when these two sides meet with goals scored after the 86th minute in 7 of their last 9 clashes.
  • Expect the visitors to have the lion's share of possession and look to take the game to Villa. The home side may be able to stay in the game in the opening exchanges but are unlikely to be able to contain an Arsenal side back to full strength.
