Team News

  • Petr Cech will require a scan on the muscle injury that forced him off at half time in the win over Everton at Goodison Park, though he is expected to be fine to play.
  • John Obi Mikel missed the Everton game with a knee complaint and could be back for the visit of QPR, though Luiz could continue in central midfield.
  • Frank Lampard may struggle to play again so soon after completing 90 minutes last time out, though his two goals and man of the match performance will certainly tempt Benitez into selecting him again.
  • Ryan Nelsen and Nedum Onuoha both played against Liverpool after injury, as did Julio Cesar, though the fact they conceded 3 goals could force Harry Redknapp into reconsidering his defensive choices.
  • As Rangers' only fit striker, Djibril Cisse needs to start scoring if his side are to have any chance of survival - a fate that is looking extremely unlikely.
  • Esteban Granero could replace Diakite in central midfield, after a below par performance against Liverpool.

Prediction

  • Rafa Benitez seems to have won over a few of the Chelsea fans with recent results - 4 wins in a row including an 8-0 thrashing of Aston Villa and an impressive combeack victory at Everton - and he could win over yet more with a win over West London rivals QPR.
  • After an unbeaten start to life at QPR, Harry Redknapp has overeen 3 straight losses over the Xmas period and needs to reverse that slide as soon as possible with the side bottom of the league with only 10 points from 20 games.
  • This is not the game for the Hoops to pick things up, and even though they will be psyched up for a derby, a win against the in-form Blues looks an all but impossible task. These sides drew 0-0 at Loftus Road earlier this season but the Blues won this fixture 6-1 last term and the Hoops could be in for another drubbing.

  • @Goonergunner - Luiz is NOT suspended. Double-check your facts @Pass12 - Cuz he is old and fat, and two games in three days are too much even for a guy who just got a MOTM. Rafatation Rafatation. Not saying he won't start though, just telling you why he MIGHT (very likely) not start...!!! 4-0 Chelsea - Torres hatty
