  • Newcastle announced on Wednesday that Demba Ba has been given permission to talk to Chelsea and will therefore not be included in the squad for this game. Papiss Demba Cisse could lead the line on his own, with Ferguson playing wide, or Shola Ameobi could come in and play alongside Cisse.
  • At the back, they will be glad to have Williamson returning from suspension at the heart of their defence having shipped 7 goals at the Emirates.
  • Otherwise the Magpies will probably remain unchanged, with little other options.
Everton
  • Steven Pienaar (dead leg) and Leighton Beines (ankle) are both very doubtful for the game at St James' Park, so Bryan Oviedo will probably be needed in either of those positions, while Anichebe could play on the left if necessary, after being deployed there for much of the game against Chelsea.
  • Everton have Marouane Fellaini back after suspension, and he should start in behind Nikica Jelavic up front, with Victor Anichebe likely to drop to the bench.
  • With Tony Hibbert out and both Phil Neville and Seamus Coleman doubtful, Jagielka could play at right-back again.

Prediction

  • Newcastle are falling further and further down the league table, now 15th and only 3 points above the relegation zone. They are worse off at this stage in the season than they were in the season when they were relegated from the top flight, and if anything is to give them reason to start performing, that fact should be it.
  • Everton threw away a lead at home to Chelsea to lose for the first time in 8 Premier League games at the weekend, and should be confident coming to St James' Park to face an out of sorts and injury ravaged Newcastle side.
  • With Fellaini back in the side they will have extra fire power un front and that should trouble a leaky Newcastle defence. Ba and co should manage a goal or two but Everton have a stronger group of players and could well nick a win.
