Team News

  • Malaga continued their fine start to the campaign with a 1-0 win away at Real Zaragoza last time out, but could be without the influential duo of captain Weligton and Jeremy Toulalan for the visit of Levante.
  • Both are rated as doubtful and Manuel Pellegrini is unlikely to want to take any risks ahead of the Andalusians' full Champions League debut against Zenit St. Petersburg on Tuesday.
  • Javier Saviola should make his first start after impressing as a substitute against Zaragoza, with 16-year-old Fabrice Olinga dropping to the bench.
  • Levante produced a stunning comeback from two goals down to beat Espanyol 3-2 a fortnight ago, in the process registering their first win of the campaign.
  • However, Vicente Iborra was sent off towards the end of that match and will miss the trip to Malaga with Miguel Pallardo set to deputise.
  • David Navarro returns from suspension, though, and he should retake his place at the heart of the defence alongside captain Sergio Ballesteros.

Prediction

  • Both sides have the unfamiliar feeling of having to prepare for a midweek European match, but Malaga have so far shown that the summer's financial problems haven't affected their preparation on the pitch, and the home advantage should be enough to see them to another three points.
  • Levante have lacked the same defensive cohesion that was so paramount in their success last season and although they showed remarkable spirit to get their first win on the board last time out, the absence of Iborra in midfield could prove crucial.
