Atletico
Real Valladolid
- Atleti nearly had a colossal collapse against Rayo Vallecano last weekend as they saw a 4-0 lead evaporate in the final 10 minutes and in the end just held on for a 4-3 victory.
- However, in truth the scoreline should never have been that close given the hosts' earlier dominance and it will be interesting to see if Diego Simeone retains the two-striker system that worked so well against Rayo, or revert to having just Radamel Falcao up top with support coming from midfield.
- Filipe Luis, Diego Godin, Gabi, Arda and Falcao were all rested for the trip to Israel to face Hapoel Tel-Aviv on Thursday and will therefore definitely take their places in the starting XI against Valladolid.
- Valladolid fell to their second consecutive defeat after conceding a heartbreaking last minute goal to Betis on Monday night.
- Miroslav Djukic has only made one change to his starting line-up in four games so far, and even that was enforced when Mikel Balenziaga was ineligible against his parent club Athletic Bilbao, so it will be interesting to see if the Serb is ready to finally give some of his fringe players an opportunity from the start.
