- Athletic had an unexpected midweek off after their game against Hapoel Kiryat Shmona was called off due to security concerns.
- However, results elsewhere confirmed they are now eliminated from the Europa League and must now concentrate on trying to rise up the table as they are currently still languishing in the bottom-half.
- Top-scorer Aritz Aduriz is missing due to suspension so Fernando Llorente may be handed his first start of the season, whilst Ander Herrera and Oscar de Marcos return from their bans.
- Fernando Amorebieta should also be fit enough to reclaim his place in defence with Borja Ekiza expected to make way.
- Depor remain in the bottom three after another defeat at home to Levante last weekend.
- And their case doesn't get any easier for the trip to San Mames as that game left them without their goalkeeper and two first-choice centre-backs.
- Ayhtami and Abel Aguilar both came on to replace Carlos Marchena and Ze Castro after they went down injured last weekend and, despite not playing particularly well, Jose Luis Oltra is left with little option but to field them again.
- German Lux will also come in for his first start of the season in place of the suspended Daniel Aranzubia.
