Team News

  • Sevilla were brought back down to earth following their derby victory a fortnight ago by a 4-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid last weekend.
  • And Michel faces a selection headache as Emir Spahic, Federico Fazio, Ivan Rakitic and Antonio Luna are all suspended as three of them were sent-off at the Calderon, whilst Spahic received his fifth yellow card of the season.
  • Alvaro Negredo and Manu del Moral are also still out so Baba Diawara will continue up front as he is the only fit senior striker at the club.
  • Valladolid continued their steady start to life back in the Primera with a 1-0 win over Granada last weekend thanks to Manucho's first goal in four games.
  • La Pucela could also have Marc Valiente back at the heart of the defence as he has now recovered from the injury that has kept him out for the last four weeks and is expected to replace Carlos Pena.
  • Elsewhere though Miroslav Djukic is expected to name the same starting XI as they go in search of their third away win of the season.

Prediction

  • The loss of such a raft of key players will undoubtedly hurt Sevilla and Valladolid have already shown their ability to defend well and counter-attack away from home this season.
  • With Negredo out Sevilla also lose their natural focal point and have to play in a different way to play to Baba's strengths, something they have generally failed to do when the Spanish international has been missing.
  • Meanwhile, at the other end Manucho's presence allied to the pace and skill of Oscar Gonzalez and Patrick Ebert could cause problems to a Sevilla defence missing their two usual centre-backs.
