Granada's problems continued as they were soundly beaten 4-0 by Andalusian rivals Malaga last weekend to remain in the bottom three.
Many had expected that to be a defeat too far for manager Juan Antonio Anquela, but with the players appearing to be very much behind their coach he has been given one final chance to save his job when they host Real Sociedad at Nuevo Los Carmenes this weekend.
Borja Gomez and Allan Nyom are expected to return to the defence after they missed the Malaga defeat and Anquela must decide whether to retain faith in Odion Ighalo up front after the Nigerian passed up a host of opportunities at La Rosaleda, or restore top-scorer Youssef El Arabi.
A late goal from Carlos Martinez rescued a point for Sociedad at home to Getafe last weekend to extend their unbeaten league run to five games and the Txuri-urdin will nearly be back to full strength for the trip to Granada.
Top-scorer Carlos Vela returns from suspension, whilst Liassine Cadamuro and Gorka Elustondo have both returned to training after a number of weeks out.
Gonzalo Castro is likely to make way for Vela to come back in, but Philippe Montanier is expected to retain Ruben Pardo and Diego Ifran after their bright showings of late.
Nuevo Los Carmenes was the base of Granada's survival last season and it will probably have to be again if they are to turn things around, but they have won just one of their seven league games there this season.
Sociedad have also improved greatly on the road in recent times after a shaky start and would seem to have the quality needed going forward to cause problems to a Granada defence that hasn't looked particularly solid in recent times.
The desperation to get a result may drive the hosts on sufficiently to take a point from the game, but it is hard to see them getting the win needed to move them out of the bottom three and probably save Anquela's job.
