Team News

  • With Morleo suspended, Pioli will switch to a 4-man defence fielding Cherubin as left-back.
  • The lineup will be a 4-3-1-2 with Taider favoured on Pazienza to join the midfield.
  • Gabbiadini will partner Gilardino up front, supported by Diamanti.
  • Cigarini will be back after suspension, so Cazzola will sit this one out.
  • There was bad news for Atalanta this week with Marilungo picking up a serious injury to his right knee that will keep him out for 6 months.
  • Marilungo's injury leaves few options up front, but Denis and Moralez are ready to lead the attack once again in Bologna.

Prediction

  • Bologna are now sitting in last position together with Pescara and Siena, and giving three points away to direct rivals Sampdoria last week dragged morale down yet further. Pioli needs to reverse the trend, and has the luxury of two consecutive home matches now. But since the next two opponents will be Lazio and Napoli, Bologna need to get points here.
  • Atalanta lost their last two matches, and in unexpected fashion against Genoa. Colantuono could settle for a point in Bologna, just to stop Atalanta from getting points, but never rule out the Bergamasca's ambition to get the full prize.
  • The visitors will try to take control of the flanks, while Bologna will be stronger with three men in the midfield plus Diamanti. Moralez will be asked to help Cigarini and Carmona, so to defensive effort provided by the two offensive midfielders will probably make the difference in the middle of the park. Bologna are under great pressure and may struggle to control the match. Pioli should adopt a 'sit-and-wait' strategy and try to exploit set pieces as well.
