Team News

  • Ribery and Robben were both doubtful through injury and rested for the win over Mainz, with the former perhaps more likely to recover in time for Wednesday night.
  • Javi Martinez could start after his big money move from Bilbao, replacing Luis Gustavo, though if Robben and Ribery both return Kroos could drop back to partner Schweinsteiger.
  • Mandzukic will hope to continue his excellent start to his Bayern career in the absence of the injured Mario Gomez, while Badstuber will continue to deputise at left-back.
  • Valencia are without a handful of midfielders after Fernando Gago joined Albelda, Canales and Banega on the sidelines, and though the former is nearing a return, Costa and Parejo should keep their places.
  • New signing Aly Cissokho, who replaced Jordi Alba this summer, will continue at left-back after a goalscoring display at the weekend.
  • On the opposite flank Joao Pereira was rested from kick off against Celta Vigo and should return at right-back.

Prediction

  • Undoubtedly one of the standout encounters of the round, last season's beaten finalists Bayern get off to a tough start hosting Valencia, who have had a tricky opening to their domestic campaign, earning their first win this weekend.
  • In contrast Bayern have stormed through their first three Bundesliga matches with comfortable wins in each and appear to have struck the balance between a resolute defence and frightening attack.
  • The German's will be favourites, particularly at home, and should win this game due to their superior quality in midfield areas. Expect them to dominate possession and eventually break the Spaniards' resolve.
