Team News

  • With only a win good enough for Chelsea here, Rafa Benitez will field his strongest team. Since arriving, he has preferred to play Azpilicueta at right-back and Ivanovic centrally and could well do so again.
  • He may recall David Luiz after he missed out at the weekend.
  • Fernando Torres' goal drought continues, his last goal coming in Chelsea's last win - 6 matches ago - against Shakhtar Donetsk in their last home Champions League game.
  • Lampard and Terry remain absent through injury, while Sturridge is unlikely to recover in time and may not feature even if he is fit.
  • Jores Okore joins long term absentees Lasse Petry and Joe Sise on the sidelines.
  • Morten Nordstrand will push Mikkel Beckmann for the spot up front after a good performance and a goal from that position against Shakhtar last time out.
  • Otherwise, head coach Kasper Hjulmand will probably field the same lineup that he has opted for in the Champions League so far, having been fairly consistent in his team selection.

Prediction

  • Things are pretty simple for Chelsea; anything but a win here and they are definitely out of the competition and heading into the Europa League. Furthermore, even if they do win, they are reliant on Juventus losing at Shakhtar as well for them to progress. The fact of the matter is that Chelsea's fate is out of their hands now, so all they must do is ensure they win and then they can hope for other results to go their way.
  • Nordsjaelland are already out, but will be coming to face the European champions hoping to make a name for themselves by upsetting the odds.
  • Chelsea have been extremely poor since Rafa Benitez's arrival, particularly going forwards, and anything but a win here would mean yet more pressure on their interim manager, and could even cause Roman Abramovich to consider his options. The home side simply have more quality than their opponents, though, and should win comfortably, having won 4-0 when the sides met in Denmark.
