Ecuador
- New Aston Villa signing Philippe Senderos is expected to start on the bench, with former Arsenal teammate Johan Djourou set to partner Fabian Schär at centre-back.
- Much of the focus will be on highly-rated left-back Ricardo Rodriguez, who could earn big money move should he impress in Brazil.
- Josip Drmic is likely to lead the Swiss attack, with Admir Mehmedi in support.
- Ecuador showed their potential with an impressive performance in their recent 2-2 draw with England in Miami.
- Antonio Valencia was red-carded in the stalemate, but will be available for their Group E opener with the Swiss.
- Enner Valencia headed in the opener in the draw and should start in attack alongside Felipe Caicedo.
Ricardo Rodriguez is amazing, I'm sure we will see him in a big team soon.
Switzerland NT is basically former Yugoslavia with few Albanian guys.
why behrami or dzemailli not start??
Rodriguez is incredible.
Rodriguez AAT!! Also a big reason for A. Valencia being quiet, both defensively and Valencia having to track back a lot. Ecuador pretty average, good pressing as a unit stopped the Swiss for the most part. Deserved win.
This last goal, Rodriguez nothing to say about you! This is incredible
Behrami will play CDM next to Inler, Steve von Bergen as CB instead of Schär and Xhaka will most likely play CAM with Mehmedi to start on the bench
Switzerland has actually lost three times in their last 11 World Cup matches, not counting a penalty kick defeat to the Ukraine in 2006 after a scoreless 120 minutes. Those losses were: 0-1 Chile (2006 Group H), 0-3 Spain (1994 R16), 0-2 Colombia (1994 Group A). The Swiss have won four and drawn four during those eleven matches.
@leftweet I think they just mean from the last World Cup to FIFA World Cup Qualifying to this World Cup
Draw - Ottmar Hitzfeld is an old "fox" and he knows how to takes something from such games, but i don't think that Ecuador will lose here. Strong lineups by both sides.
BTW, why isn't Rodriguez linked with anyone this transfer window?
@Ivannnnn I don't know. He had 8.02 average in Bundesliga with 9 MOTM's on here and only 21 years old.
@Ivannnnn He's linked with everyone! Maybe that's why.
Nice prediction, WhoScored.
Swiss has never scored a goal in substitute in The World Cup before, and today they scored both goals on substitute . HAHAHA
Liverpool should sign Shaqiri and Rodriguez.
Very Fun World Cup Stat: 5 out of the 9 teams that scored first, lost the game so far.
I think Ecuador win this.
