Team News

  • Majeed Waris picked up a knee injury in Ghana's recent friendly with South Korea and is a doubt for the opening game.
  • Christian Atsu could come into contention to replace the forward, though Jordan Ayew will also hope to start alongside brother André.
  • The team should remain largely unchanged from the 4-0 win in their final warm up match, meaning the likes of Essien and Badu may have to make do with a place on the bench.
  • Fabian Johnson should be sure to start in either of the full-back positions, with Beasley, Chandler and Yedlin in competition for the other spot in the back line.
  • There could be more places up for grabs on the wings, with Davis, Bedoya and Zusi vying for places.
  • Jozy Altidore should get the nod ahead of Chris Wondolowski up front having netted a brace in the win over Nigeria last time out.

  • Both sides will see this as a must win game with tough matches against Germany and Portugal to follow, though equally both will be desperate to avoid defeat.
  • The fear of a loss in the opening game could be prominent in the first half, with both sides looking to keep things tight at the start of the match.
  • Things should open up a little in the second half and Ghana's attacking talents will look to exploit any chances to counter, but these two may well cancel each other out.

  • Pretty tight game. Ghana only have themselves to blame though, lacked so much quality when it came to the final product. (other than the superb goal)

  • Why is Donovan not in the Squad? Wtf

  • @Focus because he was not selected for the world cup, and we don't select players by reputation, past success, or name.

  • @DelJuve "we"??? Is that you Klinsmann? Didn't think so.

  • quite a few options for the US in midfield, Beckerman or Bedoya may start. SHould be a tight game, expect both teams to score

  • @DomKennedy Both rubbish

  • americans are really convinced that they can win or pass group stage??

  • @KingSchultz At this rate I don't see why they can't. All it takes is a draw vs Portugal and they'll go through on goal difference.

  • @KingSchultz You look like an ass now

  • @KingSchultz they can

  • @KingSchultz Not even Klinsmann fancy their chances. Then again 'muricans aren't the most literate in football...

  • USA have been preparing very hard for the world cup under Klinsman, won't be surprised to see them in a quarter or semi final.

  • @spursman, I would

  • The most emotional world cup I have witnessed. I am afro-Portuguese, and have always supported Ghana as my fav from Africa. Even worse, I have been living here in the states for 7 years. To hard to pick a team. But anyway, I am going with USA. Good lucky Ghana. 2-1 for USA.

  • I don't think a draw is a disaster for the US because I think they have to beat Portugal either way. To my mind, 3 points with a win against Portugal and a draw with Ghana is better than a win against Ghana and a draw with Portugal, which I don't think would be enough. I say this because Portugal and Germany will I think draw in the first game, and USA will not get a point against Germany. A loss would be disastrous though naturally.

  • USA!
