Team News
Arsenal
Hull
- Arsenal's injury list has been made even lengthier over the international break, with Mesut Özil ruled out for a few months with a knee injury and Laurent Koscielny's Achilles injury flaring up again.
- Mikel Arteta could be available again after injury.
- Calum Chambers is suspended.
- Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry are both back in full training and could make the bench but this week could come too soon for them.
- Ahmed Elmohamady picked up a knock against Crystal Palace but that is unlikely to rule him out of this game.
- Steve Bruce is likely to stick with the same team that secured Hull's first win since the opening day of the season.
- Hernandez and Jelavic will lead the line again.
Blatant foul on Flamini for Diame's goal. I can't see how the linesman thought otherwise. That still doesn't excuse the poor defending by Mertesacker for Hernandez's goal though. It's frustrating that Hull scored twice from only 4 shots on goal but it's equally frustrating that we only scored twice from 15 (excluding blocked ones). This is our joint-2nd worst start under Wenger and unless there's a total collapse at both Chelsea & City, we're out of the title race already. I'm sure we'll make a late surge to claim 4th but that isn't good enough for Arsenal fans anymore. Wenger out, Gazidis out, Kroenke out.
I think it's time to give Isaac Hayden a chance in the first team
Far too easy for hull. Come on gunners !!
prediction: 3-1 sanchez motm, goals by welbeck, ox, sanchez and flamini (og).
snap look at that monster of an injury list!
@swagio- Yep and it's the same every year, we need a strength and conditioning coach pronto. It needs to be an appointment made above Wenger's head though. I often don't like the coach not having 100% of the say in coaching/playing matters but this is becoming a joke.
@SteveHyland This looks worse than last season though. Especially looking at the calibre of players out. They could be in for a rough couple of months, unfortunately. I wonder if Wenger can pull through. If not he needs to go.
I'd like the people who thumbs up and thumbs down comments to be viewable to the person who has been rated such. Too many comments on here, not just from me have been thumbed down for absolutely no reason and the anonymity allows this to happen.
You can add Koscielny to that monster of an injury list "/
@Titou14- Yeah the injury is worse than Wenger originally thought so he will be rested. I expect him to play against Anderlecht midweek though. Every fan said we should've bought a central defender and defensive midfielder in the summer but Wenger did neither. It was brought up at the Arsenal annual general meeting today and they (the owners/board and Wenger) skirted the issue as was expected. :-(
Hell City can nick this!
The internationals are over and we don't seem to have an fresh injury concerns. Welbeck was taken off as a precaution and is fit for the game. Koscielny should be fit too and Wilshere has come off the back of 2 good performances albeit against poor opposition and more importantly looks strong again. I predict a 3-0 Arsenal win, Welbeck, Cazorla and Chamberlain. Cazorla MotM.
RB crisis. Chambers suspended, debauchy injured...... All pressure on hector. But even then I am more concerned with LB defensive contributions. Wenger has to organize our defenders and has to make a fluid link between DM and AM .... because our attack is good if not great.
@hasan- Oezil out for between 10 and 12 weeks so midfield crisis too. Cazorla is at his best in the number 10 role and Wilshere played decent against Chelsea but with Flamini playing poor and Arteta out (not that he's played well when fit this season), we have a DM problem. I would give Diaby a go there if he's fit. We shouldn't need a pure defensive midfielder against Hull (no disrespect intended) and Diaby can't be any worse than Flamini has been this season. I would go: Szczesny, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Diaby, Wilshere, Sanchez, Cazorla, Chamberlain, Welbeck in a 4-2-3-1 formation. I predict we'll win 2-0 with Cazorla MotM.
@SteveHyland wenger is too stubborn to send in diaby, even diaby admitted that he has too understand how to play DM before he can actually play. I would say its Szczesny, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Flamini, Wilshere, Sanchez, Cazorla, Chamberlain, Welbeck in 4-1-4-1 with subs poldi, rosicky and cambell. But the problem is cazorla and wilshere have no link up. With so much injuries and rotation of playing position there can never be any sort of real link up between players.
@hasan- Oh as for the link, I agree Wenger needs to decide his best midfield trio and stick with them so they can build up the relationship of knowing where a player is without even looking. With Oezil out for a while and Ramsey still 3 weeks away before even going full pelt in training, Wilshere and Cazorla will play every game. Who he picks out of Flamini or Diaby is important but more importantly, imo, is giving that 3 a run of 5-6 games together.
@hasan- Oh I don't think Diaby is our long-term defensive midfielder solution by any stretch. I think we need to buy someone for that role. But while Flamini is playing so bad, and in the absence of a quality defensive midfielder, I think Diaby should have a shot. Not as a defensive midfielder per se but a sitting midfielder who acts as a road block in front of the defence a la Gustavo/Carvalho/Matic but with the added ability to do a rangy run forward. Hopefully he doesn't do too many of those against the big teams because essentially what you need in those games is a barrier to stop players like Hazard dancing past defensively-inept midfielders. I don't think Diaby has the dedication or concentration to do for us what Matic does for Chelsea but who at our club does?
