Match fixing at its finest...
I feel for Villa. This was a game where they deserved at least a point. Not sure how Benteke was given offside when it wasn't even close in real time but then nothing surprises me after this season's officiating in the prem. City without Kompany look ridiculous in defence. Granted, Vincent has had a bad season- mainly due to injuries and (when he's fit) playing with a joke of a defensive partner but when he's 100% he is clearly the best central defender in the world. If Klopp is to go to City, the first thing he needs to do is bring in a quality partner for him. Hummels or somebody of his level. Fernando, well nobody reckons him and I don't disagree. He was outclassed by Villa's midfield trio of Grealish, Westwood and Sanchez. Just 1 of many that will need to be sold by whoever the new manager will be.
Hundreds of millions of pounds spent on that rubbish. Good thing the sheikh had the sense to bribe the refs and the opposition goalkeeper, or Man $ity would be in a relegation battle.
@What4 haha, cheers for the laughs!
Pellegrini OUT!!!
Joke Hart :D
When you have 45% possession at home against Villa and have to play a 36 year old Lampard and Fernandinho in midfield after spending close to half a billion you know you're just a bunch of mercenaries that won a lottery and just an embarrassment to the country. Oh well , you better not expect City to do anything in Europe. The only hope for us is if Wenger's Arsenal keep on improving the like the way he hasdone and Mourinho doesn't blow it away next season. However you could always count on City in making the Premier League a laughing stock in Europe time and time again. We've come far from the era when the sides of Ferguson , Benitez and Wenger were European powerhouses capable of beating anyone.
@NotBiased- Tbh, that's more the fault of Pellegrini than the City owners. Their owners obviously know nothing about football, which is ok cos Abramovich didn't either when he bought Chelsea, but they employed an owner who cannot spot a quality player for toffee so the money thy gave him has been wasted. Since Txiki Begiristain became City director of football, here are the permanent signings he and Manuel made: Bony, Caballero, Demichelis, Fernandinho, Fernando, Jovetic, Mangala, Navas, Negredo, Sagna & Zuculini for a total £174m. Mangala and Zuculini are young and well regarded so they need to be given time but only Fernandinho of the others has shown to be a worthy SQUAD player let alone team. Added to his tactical cock-ups this season, Pellegrini has proven himself to be a hindrance to their progression and with a team not much worse than last season, clearly won the league last year by default.
@SteveHyland I like Pellegrini as a coach for his work at Malaga. Yes he has had his fair share of feck ups but I feel city players are bigger culprits of that. Toure , Kompany, Aguero , Silva and Dzeko are players who have played plenty of times in Europe and few even have European cup to their names. Yet they look totally clueless in Europe specially Yaya. The lack of desire from them at times has been atrocious. Just shows tha bunch of mercenaries can only get you so far.
@SteveHyland- I meant employed a MANAGER, obviously.
Grealish destroyed Fernando today! With Toure getting old City needs another good defensive Midfielder!Very weird as Javi Garcia was much better than Fernando yet got traded. I hope Aston Villa doesn't get relegated as they play good football and are fun to watch. They were very unlucky today.
Man City are an embarrassment to English football. Just goes to show how much we have deteriorated when the "champions of England" hardly make it to the knockouts and get schooled by a half decent team in the very first round that are nowhere near as good as they were 3-4 years ago. I've been critical of Arsenal and Tottenham in the past but at least they have done well in Europe and haven't just put English football to shame with their performances. Arsenal have beaten Barcelona and Bayern Munich the season they won the champions league and were inches away from knocking them out. Spurs on the other hand won the group in 10-11 that had the previous seasons's winner.
Why can't they grind out similar results when in Europe? Simple. Because they play teams that are far more intelligent and possess better technical ability than them. Even if they get lucky with one or two decisions , the other team would still have too much in their locker.
It wasn't just a penalty but a red card as well. The praise City would receive in tomorrow's headlines about how they were able to "grind" out the result with graft and fantastic "determination" would be unbearable. When in reality they were just gifted the 3 points by ridiculous refereeing decisions.
Villa well and truely robbed.
Agueru is the hero of the game.
Villa win or draw
lose here and pelligrini is done as manager of city.
Come on Villains!
As well as Villa are playing atm and as badly as City are, the fact Villa have been battered at the Etihad in the last few games with an average number of goals conceded slightly over 4, I highly doubt this will be anything other than a City win. The difference being they have world class match-winners and Villa don't. I say 3-1 City, Silva MotM.
2-3 Benteke hat trick
1-2. Benteke again.
