Team News
Fiorentina
Tottenham
- With Ciprian Tatarusanu a doubt, Vincenzo Montella could be forced to recall the cast aside Neto, who had started the season as number 1 but was dropped after refusing to sign a new contract.
- Borja Valero is also a major doubt with an injury he picked up in the first leg.
- Montella may opt for a back four here after a switch from a back 3 had a positive impact in the first leg.
- Spurs again have no injury concerns, but they do have the small matter of a trip to Wembley on Sunday to contend with.
- It will be interesting to see how Mauricio Pochettino decides to approach this game given how important he considers the Europa League but also the chance for silverware at the weekend.
- The likes of Paulinho, Ben Davies and Federico Fazio should all come in, but the big calls will surround key players Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen.
Salah is fantastic.
THE BEST LEAGE IN THE WORLD
@iAgx360 what league do you think is better?
@iAgx360 Yes best in the world only in claim not on the field.
@iAgx360 bpl still is the best league in the world, not because they're going to win the european competions but because when the leader plays against one of the 8th first teams he has the possibility of losing. it's about being very competitive, burnley proved so last weekend
@killghost15 (cont.) BPL's only claim to "being competitive" is the fact that lower teams can beat the top teams. And that's a fact. But, guess what? That happens in the other leagues too. Real Sociedad was deep in a relegation battle when they beat BOTH Real Madrid and Barcelona this season. In France, the 3 title contenders (Lyon, PSG and Marseille) have been beaten by the likes of Bastia, Guingamp, Toulouse, Metz, ASSE, Lens, Nantes, Montpellier, Rennes and even Nice... Thus, this supposed "uniqueness" of the BPL is not unique at all, leaving their last claim to be "Europe's most competitive league" quite VOID!!! - Simply put, by any standards (be it in Europe, competition at the top, or simply the uncertainty of its matches) the Barclays Premier League is NOT the most competitive in Europe. It just has the best marketing machine: credit where it's due.
@killghost15 Sorry dude, but you're wrong. The BPL is neither the best nor the most competitive league. And I'm not talking about the world, but even among Europe's top 5 leagues. * Is it competitive in Europe? NO (I think the recent results speak clearly) * Is it competitive for the title? NO, it's just a two horse race. back in the summer, everyman and his dog knew it would be between Chelsea and Man City and nothing has changed aso far. And come May, one of Chelsea and Man City will be champions. La Liga at least is a three horse race, and so is Ligue 1. Only Bundesliga is less competitive at the top.

@killghost15 oh very competive really. Why was Man U dominating it since it inception 90s. Why was Man U the only constat winner in the league where the rival like dalgish liverpool, blackburn rover(relegated), newcastle, 4rsenal(competive for fourth position only but not on the title.), leeds united(no one remebers them), chelski etc. Show very competive it was one horse game. If u talk about competion then it mean French Ligue 1 is best considering it had 7 champions in a decade. So shut up with clap trap.
@Ffaris- To clarify, I meant the the top league in England not just premier league regarding number of league titles.
@SteveHyland i guess ur only one dislike my comment r we having duel here.
@Ffaris- You do realise that we had a divison 1 before the premier league came into existence? There's a more even share of the titles in the premier league regardless of whether 1 team had a dominant period or not. Real Madrid have been winners or runners up 53 times since the start of the Spanish primera division and Barcelona 46. The next closest are Atletico Madrid with 18. 4th placed Bilbao 15. In the English first division, Man Utd have been in the top two 35 times, Liverpool 31, Arsenal 21, Aston Villa 17, Everton 16 and Sunderland 11. We have 11 clubs who have been in the top two 8 times or more, Spain have had only 5. We have had 23 different teams crowned as champions, Spain have had only 9. The top 2 teams in Spain combined have won the league 65% of the time, the top 2 in England just above half that at only 33%. There are many terms used to describe the Spanish first division but "competitive" is not 1 of them. The numbers back me up and contradict you.
@SteveHyland by the way never seen a gunner who is also fan of Spurs. Judging from ur comment ur not true Arsenal fan but fan of Man U, Chelsea, Spurs, Manchester City, liverpool etc. Dude ur were never true gunner to begin with. Ur just one those new tv fans who never seen Emirates in real life.
@SteveHyland so epl history proves is One Horse race, its only after alex ferguson that kids like claim its comptive-when did Fergie yep 2013 it only 1 and year and 2 months since epl is called competive. If don't remember any of these fact kid ask ur parent Im sure they tell u lot of thing that will startle you ;)
@SteveHyland so givig us history lesson is not going to give relevance to any ur point it just pathetic attempt to waste other ppl time. Infact ur point does not answer my any of my allegation just waste time. I do know wat Division 1 was that change the fact English historically is One Horse Race and history proves that. Infact it was way lot before u were born in 90s(guessing u were in 2000 or 99). so going back far even in early 2000 the duopoly of la liga that is a recent phenomena stevie doo(im the 80s kid), there was no all-dominant Barcelona in the later in 90s and early 2000s whatever barcelona dominance we are seeing today came in during second tenure frank rijkard and infact it all started 2004(so the reason why spainish duopoly look old to u coz ur were born 1999 0r 2000 so that why it is long time for u but not for guys like me its short time dear ;) ).
@killghost15 So too can Barcelona lose at home to Malaga or Celta.
@killghost15 No that just means its competitive because they're all shite.
Seria A ROCKS
@Farid87 amen to dat brother seie does rock.
@Farid87 what?? look i'm pt so i don't have nothing binding me to bpl teams but what you just said is stupid. serie A is the worst league in europe. and most games seem fixed by the way they are played, only juventus plays well on a regular basis, and thank god for inter and napoli finally showing some skill, because betting on italy is 80% of time a gamble Benfica beat juventus last year i think that shows how good italian teams are
@killghost15 yeah creep talk about ur league serie a is still better. Looserpol, pootiham spurs, 4ssnal, were all knocked out of europe. So really shut up man. Ur opinos are irrelevant considering what happenign right now.
@Ffaris- Serie A better than the prem yet they have only 1 team in the last 16 of the champions league (and they will likely get dumped out by Dortmund)? Yes, Italian teams are king of the Europa- the cup no team in England really cares about. All the good players playing for Juventus want to leave anyway.
@SteveHyland Not caring about the EL is stup¡d by the likes of Spuds and Liverpool, since trying to win it was their best chance to secure a direct spot in next season's Champions League. If Everton wins the EL, the PL's 4th spot will be worth only a ticket for next year's Europa League LOL
@SteveHyland fiorentina, inter, napoli as roma 4 italian team in europa league. 1 champions leageu. What does Inklish League has to show for it self Everton in europa and chelsea still pendning in cl(im sure juve has much as much chance to qualify chelseas has did u eve watched chelsea game, chelsea could not come out of their own half) and plz don't mention arsenal plz. So as of this moment Serie A outscore english league 3-0 (4 italian vs 1 englsih in europa and 1 italian vs english team in cl do the maths steve;) )
@SteveHyland so does inkland also one team in europa league and and cl.
@SteveHyland Stevie it look u hate every league just prove how superior ur crappy, overrated, delusional, number 1 league of Inkland. Man how much English League is paying u for promoting their league. I hope they are paying u otherwise it would look pathetic for u to do their dirty work for free. Shows how much desperate u are ;)
@killghost15 Cheap salt, contact killghost15.
@Zokey but yeah, they're not the worst, pt's championship is much worser.
@Zokey i've seen way too many serie A games not to hate it and about benfica beating juventus (because i don't know which part you're refering to) i'm refering to the diference in fame,money and the way juventus dominates in italy, not saying that benfica are bad
@killghost15 It's obvious he refers to Benfica beating Juventus in the Europa League semifinals last season
Cheerio Spudsies.
Thank you Soldado! Thank you for all you did at Spurs. Bye bye 4ever.
@Woldemar He still has a contract for a few more years XP
absolutely beautiful run from salah, fiorentina did good business.. by by spurs
I don't know why Pochettino hasn't made this cup the priority for this season given the winner gets into the champions league. Spurs have a much better chance of winning the Europa than finishing 4th in the league imho. I've been impressed by Spurs (not sure if I'm permitted to say that as an Arsenal fan...) this season and was 1 of those calling for Pochettino to be given time, but they're a work in progress in the league and don't have the consistency atm.
@SteveHyland it only mean that epl is overrated fact deal with it. La Liga is better so is serie A. Hey wait a minute wat ru doing spuds match? I thought u were gonner fan. Guess ur one of those tv fans of arsenal who never even seen emirates in real life except in tv. Man i know of gunners fans but they would never stoop low in joining sups camp. Mr. Hyland i have doubts of u being true gunners. U just one new English League who claims to be fan of arsenal. Ur were never a gunner to begin with.
@SteveHyland There's no guarantee that we win this cup, so he decided to go for it on all fronts...and considering the schedule as of late, that decision is murdering us.
@Skrong- That's pretty much my point, with the thin Squad Spurs have- particular in attacking positions, Pochettino really needed to sit down and think which competition Spurs have a better chance of getting into the champions league 2015/16 via and stick all his eggs in that 1 basket. If he thinks/thought that was the league then fair enough but then why play ANY of your first XI in this competition? You never win a cup playing half-arsed and as you said, the decision to hedge his bets is having a detrimental effect in both competitions. Strange decision. Now you're out, it's made his decision for him. Probably the best thing that could've happened to Spurs looking at it as a non-fan.
Bentaleb is the best player this season in Tottenham
@Amine27DZ- Pretty sure that honour goes to Kane.
@SteveHyland Eriksen too
@Excalibur- Eriksen has been good but Kane ridiculously good. Take Eriksen out and there will still be enough invention to give Kane chances (albeit not as many as with him) but take Kane out and Spurs score nowhere near the amount of goals.
Soldado unbelievable!!
Hope to see Chadli playing well, and Tottenham to proceed
Spurs are a great football side, but Fiorentina are usually tough at home. If they put a midfield 5 and go back to a more possession game it could help, but who knows what Montella is up to. Spurs have struggled a bit away from home so Fiorentina not to lose - but its a difficult game for both sides going into it.
Fiorentina for sure.
Soldado to score yet again.
@angeldp Yes, and I will win the lottery twice in a row.
Can't see Tottenham winning this no matter what...
@tle Even if we score more goals than them?
2-1 win for Fiorentina
Salah to star.
@Waje called for it
Bye Bye Spuds.
@What4 Bye Bye Arsenal
@vavbutaney Its so funny how Arsenal fans think they can overturn a 3 away goals.
@vavbutaney Ah, touche. Still, CL>EL any day of the year. Spuds.
@What4 You'd prefer to be in the CL getting bombed by arguably the worst team in the competition?
@Skrong Er, you do realise it's the round of 16, right? As in, 16 teams have already been knocked out? And even if we are the 2nd worst or even worst team in the CL, it still means we're better than any team in the EL. But only a Spud couldn't understand that.
@What4 Not exactly. Just because you're in the CL doesn't inherently mean you're better than the teams in the EL. Is Shaktar better than Wolfsburg, just because they're in the CL? Besides, on paper Arsenal are a good team...it's a shame games aren't won on paper though.
@Skrong- It does if you're in the same domestic league but not indicative of the current season obviously. Even though the Monaco result and the loss at the Lane were disasters, Arsenal are still a better team (at the moment) than Tottenham. We will likely finish 3rd with Spurs 5th behind Man Utd in 4th. I agree we're a great team on paper, we just regularly play like less than the sum of our parts. Tottenham will have a problem if Kane stops scoring though. Pochettino teams are geared towards the striker scoring the majority of the goals, Lambert @ Soton and now Kane @ Spurs. Arsenal have a wider range of scorers so more weapons offensively at least.
@Skrong Second worst, they just proved that Arsenal is the worst.
@Zokey- I'd like to point out it's a 2-legged affair and Monaco haven't actually won yet. It's a tough ask but we scored twice away to Bayern a couple of seasons ago and without conceding so I wouldn't be surprised if we still get through. Barcelona lost at home to Malaga in their last league game but nobody is saying Malaga are a better team. The fact is Monaco are an average team who played against a potentially great team who decided to put their sunday league boots on.
