Arsenal
Chelsea
- Alexis Sanchez and David Ospina both miss out for Arsene Wenger's side after both were granted a longer leave of absence following the Copa America, while Danny Welbeck is sidelined with a knee injury.
- Petr Cech is expected to make his official debut for Arsenal against former side Chelsea.
- Hector Bellerin and Mathieu Debuchy are battling it out for a starting spot, though the former should be given the nod to start.
- Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Gary Cahill and Diego Costa have been passed fit following respective facial and hamstring injuries.
- However, only Cahill is expected to start, with Mourinho unlikely to risk Costa ahead of the season.
- Loic Remy should be given the nod to start in attack, though Falcao is pushing for a starting berth.
Cech still a Chelsea player according to WS.even after he played against them. Will break the internet.
@pierreleroix They should change it b4 the season starts. Hope the Admin updates the database asap.
I am an arsenal fan, but even I have to admit as much as like the win, I don't think arsenal are still upto PL sharpness, cazorla was amazing as always but walcott was not very involved at all. Ozil couldn't partner up with a striker. Monreal allowed striker to pass through. Arsenal need to work hard if they have to win the PL. Every match counts. Lets just hope we don't get any injury. #COYG
@hasan- It didn't help Oezil being shunted out to the left for most of the game to be fair. I expect Alexis to play on the left and Oezil in the middle against West Ham.
@SteveHyland Alexis would be playing against WHU? Pray tell me.
@HellKitchen- Ah yeah I forgot Wenger had already ruled him out. Not a bad move by Arsene. I'd actually rest him against Palace too.
@SteveHyland Thanks Steve :)
Very boring display with no intensity. Both teams have nothing to do in Europe among Real, Barca, Bayern...
@blitz wow you either don't know good football or didn't watch the game because that was the most entertaining preseason game that's for sure.
@blitz for once you're right.
@blitz- You mean 3 teams who hold the financial and transfer monopoly in their leagues creating a 1 or 2-horse race 2 out of every 3 seasons? There is no logic which says those 3 shouldn't equate for 75% of the semi-final line-up every single season given their massive advantages.
@SteveHyland How many champions did EPL have in recent 15 years. What about La Liga? What is the usual difference in points? Compare it and you'll see there's no different. Man Utd, Chelsea, City and Arsenal won it. In La Liga Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia and Atletico. When they play in Europe though, we know what happens. Let's talk facts, not opinions. Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal are not rich? Come on
Arsenal wanted it the most and hence ended up with the trophy. Could have scored more if chances fell to better finishers. Coquelin once again had a very good game.
Another crap big game performance from Eden "best in the league" Hazard. You know he's trying his best to live up to his "big game bottler" tag.
@NotBiased you are once again a Chelsea hater and a twat. How do you explain the arsenal game last year (1st one) he was the best player on the pitch and the United game and the fact that this website had him as the second best overall player in the champions league only second to Leo messi, yeah that's what I thought you ignorant bias fool.
@NotBiased Still can't believe he's the reigning player of the year. Most over-rated player ever. Alexis played better than him in this game and he was on twitter watching it on his giant 4K TV.
@NotBiased Like your CR is any better in big games. And how is this a big game again?
@blitz I'm not a Ronaldo fan but Hazard is closer to the level of Matt Jarvis than to the level of Ronaldo. Any game involving two of the top teams or having something at stake is a "big" game.
@blitz- He's not a Madrid fan. Also, if you see this as a small game, why were you surprised there was no intensity- as stated in your comment above?
@SteveHyland It's not a big game but it's a final preparation for the season. I expected a bit more fighting. Of course CR is better than Eden, so what? I am just saying... Hazard is a talented lad and if we are going to underrate him after one game, we are all retarded
Has the limit of subs increased from 3 to 4? WS shows here that Mou utilized 4 subs.
@HellKitchen 6 subs allowed in the Community Shield
@BenMcAleer1 Thanks Mate (y)
CHELSKI BUS-TED this time
Tactically underwhelming display by both sides. No pressing whatsoever. Boring game, would have expected more from Arsenal judging by their pre season.
falcao sucks
@Terry I'LL Never understand why Mourinho wanted him on the squad.
@dib Because he needed a striker. Falcao is a name,
@dib favour to mendes
@Terry yes, very overrated anymore
Cuadrado will be benched till 3015. He is waiting to board the bus but it is overcrowded.
Sad pathetic chelsea.
Goo Goonerssssssssssssssss..................tear that bus apart...
Where do they show the game? Its not even available at Unibet streams...
the "community" shield, only on one channel that you have to pay for, maybe they should rename it the money grabbing shield
@JoeB91 Buy VPN, Proxy for 9.91 per year and enjoy free sports all around on the mighty Internet.
@JoeB91- £24 per month for it in HD if you're a non-BT Broadband or tv customer too. Extortionate. Hopefully they get a tenth the number of subscribers they're banking on and are forced to halve to price.
@JoeB91 lmao
Draw FT and Arsenal to lift is my prediction.
I really hope Arsenal takes this one. It's a squad that is playing together well and could make a real run in the league also. I really don't see a lot of goals here but, in my opinion, this game means a whole lot more to the Gunners than it does to Chelsea.
@HandofGodI am not agree with you just little bit. Jose and Wenger rivalry makes all the matches very interesting and important despite on any reasons)
@Roorck Didn't see your comment til after the fact... that was certainly a valid point but I guess we found our answer anyhow. There will be a pair of feisty matches between the two in the BPL this season for sure.
Debuchy is our first choice RB and will remain so while Bellerin's defensive positioning is so poor, Mertesacker and Koscielny will switch sides from the lineup above and I doubt Wenger will put Cazorla out on the wing when he was amazing as a deep-lying playmaker last season. Our gameplan is built around midfield dominance and the Coquelin/Cazorla/Oezil trio is Arsene's first choice. Walcott starting ahead of Chamberlain is more likely and Ramsey won't miss out given how highly Arsene rates him. I can actually see Theo starting on the left and Ramsey on the right which will be good news for Chelsea's full-backs playing against a right-footed LW and 1 of the slowest in our squad on the RW. Whoever plays on the LW, I just hope Ivanovic doesn't get away with fouling non-stop like the last 2 times we played and that nobody gets away with constant fouls- whichever side. No reason for this game to descend into farce. I'm agreeing with whoscored and will predict 2-1 to us with Cazorla MotM.
Debuchy will start instead of Bellerin as Wenger needs to be cautious on the wing where Hazard operates. I prefer Bellerin but Debuchy is more defensive minded and against Hazard Bellerin might get found out and Walcott will start instead of Giroud! Giroud will not be able to breathe as John Terry will bully him like he did last season in all meetings! Walcott can run at the Chelsea defense and will be harder to contain! I think Arsenal will score first and Chelsea will play the bus game again and wait to counter! COYG!
I just don't think Wenger has what it takes, considering history vs Mourinho, to have Arsenal considered as favourites. Pre-season doesn't mean THAT much, especially if the quality of opposition is taken into account: RM, PSG and co > Lyon, Wolfsburg and co. I actually think a draw or loss to a top team is better season preparation than a streak of wins against decent to poor teams; mental fortitude is more valuable than a false sense of confidence. This coming from an Arsenal fan.
@6seconds Ahem, Wolfsburg just beat Bayern in the Super Cup. And a 6-0 on Lyon isn't nothing. It is preseason, I'll give you that, but those matches say a lot more than beating Thailand Allstars 1-0. (No offense to Thailand.)
@6seconds- It depends more on how seriously teams take friendly fixtures than the club. Not much can be taken from preseason results as a general rule imo because most players are trying to get fit, avoid injury and build up the concentration. As you know, we beat (and outplayed) Wolfsburg last Sunday and they beat (and at least matched) Bayern today. In a CL QF, Bayern would probably beat us. As long as both teams tomorrow are up for it, it'll be a test for every player. You'll get a drop in tempo late on in all likelihood but I agree a match (albeit an 80 minute equivalent) against a top team who is up for it- even if it results in a loss- is better preparation for a tough league campaign than playing 2nd and 3rd placed teams from lesser leagues- especially when that match is against the title favourites.
@6seconds Chelsea preseason 2014/2015: Wycombe Wanderers, AFC Wimbledon, RZ Pellets, NK Olimpija Ljubljana, Vitesse Arnheim, Werder Bremen, Fenerbahce, Besiktas, Ferencvaros United preason 2014/2015: Roma, Inter, Real, Liverpool, Valencia. Clearly see who had better opposition in preseason and everyone knows how it turned out later.
@marcinqt I concede that my claim is not evidence based, but let's take your example and control for some basic factors. In 2013/2014 CHE finished 3rd with 82 pts and MUN finished 7th with 64 pts. In 2014/2015 CHE finished 1st with 87 pts and MUN 4th with 70pts. So CHE progress was +2 positions and +5 pts and MUN +3 positions and +6pts. Now, the difference is too small to claim MUN performed relatively better than CHE, but a single season can not be used to make generalizations. Also, my metrics (position and points) don't tell the whole story. It would be interesting to see a well analysed investigation (WhoScored writers?), but my opinion is basically pre-season isn't influential enough to out-weigh a 14 game pattern.
@6seconds And by RM I mean a big Spanish team, which in turn means Barca (oops). I think editing capabilities are needed here, with an etiquette similar to reddit's.
I think this will be a score draw over 90 minutes. It will be interesting to see how the teams line up. Arsenal have good options all over the field, I don't need to say anything about Chelsea, they really speak for themselves.
Thought Fabregas was suspended !!
@MahmoudMegahed suspension was reduced to only one game
When are we likely to see a preview for this fixture? I need WS help for my own tipping and predictions ;)
@Overmars- Cheat! Ha
@SteveHyland I predicted a win! Didn't expect us to play 4-1-4-1 but it kinda worked. Would prefer us to start with Giroud at CF and have Theo compete with Alexis and Ox for LW/RW spot.
@Overmars Although Theo will be 2nd or 3rd choice ST until Welbeck and Alexis get match fit.
