Man Utd
Newcastle
- Phil Jones and Anders Lindegaard remain Louis van Gaal's only injury absentees. Marouane will serve the final game of his three-match suspension and Marcos Rojo is likely to still be match short.
- David de Gea will continue to watch on from the stands as his impending move to Real Madrid continues to drag on.
- Bastian Schweinsteiger could finally make his full United debut having featured in each of United's opening three matches from the bench.
- Memphis Depay's explosive midweek performance will keep him out on the left flank, with Adnan Januzaj expected to keep his central berth.
- Wayne Rooney performance's up front have inspired much confidence this season but there isn't any immediate danger to his starting spot.
- Steve McClaren's squad will travel to Old Trafford without a host of first-team players. Daryl Janmaat misses out after being sent off in their last outing, whereas Emmanuel Rivière, Siem de Jong, Paul Dummett, Sylvain Marveaux and Curtis Good are all likely to miss the trip through injury.
- Moussa Sissoko was forced off against Swansea in their last match, but is expected to overcome his knock to take his place in the starting XI.
- With Janmaat suspended, Massadio Haidara is likely to switch over to right-back with Jack Colback dropping back to fill in on the left side of defence. This would see Cheick Tiote return to the fold in central midfield.
- Aleksandar Mitrovic is currently averaging a yellow card every 12 minutes in the Premier League and isn't likely to be trusted with a stering berth until he can curb his wild side.
- Remy Cabella joined Marseille on a season-long loan this week in a part exchange that saw Florian Thauvin come the other way. Thauvin isn't short of match fitness having featured in both of Marseille's league matches, but it might be too soon to throw him in from the start.
Atleast fellaini's suspension has come to an end.
Toothless Man Utd cannot win the title. Rooney would be dropped if Van Gaal had courage.
@Farzad. Who would replace him though?
@LionelJ Chicharito
ugly and poor you don't deserve Schweinsteiger you pathetic team
Chant with me .. ugly united .. ugly united .. ugly united .. ugly united
United are playing ugly. They need some flow at the striking end. 3 games played and just 1 goal scored. Thank God their DM and CBs are playing somewhat well.
Oh and Man Utd need an upgrade to Rooney. Chelsea have Costa, City have Aguero, Arsenal will surely bring in a WC striker. All the money they've spent and all they've really done is overload the central midfield.
No quality in sitting midfield from Newcastle. Honestly, Anita and Colback are championship level players and I will be shocked if McClaren doesn't strengthen that area. I don't agree with teams parking the bus when they're drawing but it almost worked perfectly for them after the break from Smalling's header. Smalling very good again btw, albeit against a conservative attack. Certainly a better option for England than Cahill & Jagielka.
@SteveHyland Stones and Smalling for England would be a good pair.
@SteveHyland Upvoted
@HellKitchen- People will start to think I'm paying you!... How much did we agree again? :-p
@SteveHyland Hahahaha after all we support the Invincibles
Every time I ask a united fan about the signings they've made and I hear things like "best in the league" or "shrewdest business any club could have done". Granted most of their signings have been decent but they have still neglected key areas. They desperately need more pace and could have done with Pedro. They actually have a no 10 playing as winger when they should have bought a decent right winger and played Mata as a 10. They're raving about how their defence has become solid and all that without realising that they've yet to come across a half decent strike force. They can finish third with this need but to compete for the title and a solid finish in Europe , they're till a winger and a defender short.
@NotBiased couldn't be agree more. Mata is not a winger. He is a good player but not in best form and what United need. Rooney is pathetic these days.
Great game by Mbemba. Wise beyond his years, plays like a man 5 years older. ;-P
LvG possession game is killing United, every match they pass the ball around so he can show it to the press the statistics. Hes caging the players with this so called "philosophy" of his. United got far more better players to play offensive football at high level, but van Gaal goes for his "balance" fatish all day long.
@Steven21s I only watched the first half but I don't think they were bad. 8 - 0 shots on target...
@Steven21s I don't think there was anything wrong with united's performance today. In fact they actually played the best football of the season. On any other day they could have easily had 2 or 3. you can put a front trio of Ronaldo , Messi and Robben in front of a parked bus and they'd look ineffective.
@NotBiased We made too many silly mistakes up front, Newcastle was harmless at best. I think the passing tempo is average and indeed United could sign all the worldclass players they want if we let the opponent recover his defense and park the bus all the time. It's not a bad performance ,but the style of football we play is hardly attractive under LvG.
@Steven21s You started the game well and played some attractive football and had quite a few chances. The final ball was lacking at times but even when players were in good position , they had the great wall of china in front of them to clear off the line. Its fine when its the dying minutes of the game and the defending team is trying to hold on but when it occurs time and time again it becomes a bit boring.
Typical park the bus tactics from a small time club. No wonder our teams struggle in Europe when they have to worry about both teams who play their football and also those who park the bus. I would understand if Bournemouth or Watford were playing like that but when you spend 50m on transfer and can't have a single shot on target to save your life you may as well give up on football.
@NotBiased Taylor, Coloccini and Haidara aren't world beaters. Man Utd should have broken them down and they didn't. I'm sure Newcastle would like to create more chances but they aren't clicking up front yet either.
@dSquib They've bought some great attacking talents and expected a lot more from them in the game.
Sorry for the fans but ManUTD became a midtable team just like Everton, Tottenham and others.
Krul MOTM. Good point for Newcastle.
Rooney needs someone in front of him, a god striker to partner up with. He drops back too much to play as an actual striker.
Good job by Newcastle so far.
MANu is so poor .. Schweinsteiger is the best player in the 1st half
@Yman Depay looks the most dangerous player
@TacticalMastermind he's so selfish .. so useless so far
@Yman He is dutch.
@Yman he was dangerous in the first half an hour. didn't do much second half
ManU has become a real scoring machine... ;-)
Man U probably need to get Fellaini on for Januzaj. Newcastle need to attack more through Haidara. They should also think about bringing on Aarons from Perez
@TacticalMastermind Fellaini is still banned...
@Kendev I don't really follow Man U. First time I've seen them this season. I assumed he was on the bench.
@TacticalMastermind Got a red in the last match last season, got banned for the first 3 games this season. Id like to see Herrera in for Januzaj, link with Mata last season was incredible from time to time.
@Kendev Yes, I agree. Herrera is the best option from the bench
No Young no party
Not sure if ManUTD is finally improving or if NewCastle is too weak.
Yet another wrong offside decision. Looks like we need to look for competent and proper officials.
@NotBiased Incredibly tight. He was a shade offside. But you expect the benefit of the doubt to go with the attacker on those.
@NotBiased Rooney was offside, a little but he was.
@DonKing No he wasn't.
@NotBiased Yes he was. Typical United fan, calls himself 'not biased' but is incredibly blinkered to his own club.
@NotBiased If any part of the body you can legally play the ball with is offside then the player is off...you need an eye test.
@TacticalMastermind Just been proven on bt sport by Howard Webb that it was offside. It was offside comfortably actually from the correct angle and the linesman made the correctt decision. I take back what I said about benefit of the doubt no I've seen a better angle
Memphis has been the headline since champions league, I believe new castle will try to stop him. Which may earn united a goal scoring free kick or penalty. Rooney to score.
Today is a beautiful day - one must win, no draws are possible. Suffice it to say, Newcastle players will be ashamed of themselves because of the glorious victory of Manchester United!
I hope Man Utd to concede. 2-1.
Possible upset in the making. Newcastle need points soon.
I think Newcastle's front 4 will eventually come good, just not in this game. They really need a decent passing sitting midfielder. All the transfer rumours are about strikers and wingers, they need them too- especially wingers but without someone in midfield who can pass the ball, there is no chance of McClaren implementing the style of football he wants played, and did play, at Derby. For this game, I'll go with 2-0 Utd, Memphis MotM.
i did not predict a score in my post below, i am going with a 4-1 win to the red devils.. GGMU
Newcastle fan, can't remember the last time we scored away but defence has improved. 1-0
1-0 Win for Manu, Man of the match: Memphis Depay
2-0, UNITED. MOTM: Darmian.
we can"t compare Brugge and Newcastle, in the upcoming game will not be much space for Depay and Co. So, 1-1
3-0. Newcastle are still bad.
Da holdin midfield is solid nd makes our defensive system great.. Depay scored in CL nd will boost his confidence.. its been long newcastle won an away match nd wit lots of injuries i dunt see dem breaking dat jinx @ the theatre of dreams.. high scorin match nd anoda clean sheet for manutd.. 3-0 to united..
GGMU... come on guys, we can do this i know we can, we have a great squad with all the players understanding each other. Shaw understands Depay and Darmian understands Mata, Smalling is playing really well and Blind is not too bad as well, the middle with schneiderlin and Carrick or Tiger is solid as well and the Captain up front(hope he starts scoring really soon). so we have a good team
@john666... i agree wit uu 1000% john.. da team hve started jellin now nd der will b more goals in dis game.. 3-0 manutd..#GGMU#..
@Kaycee_GH GGMU
2-0 Win for Man United with Mata as MOTM. Only chance Newcastle have is if united are tired from the CL. But perhaps Van Gaal will rotate, so not really giving the Geordies much of a chance.
@Overmars Newcastle played far better than I expected. Wijnaldum and Mitrovic had good games and Thauvin should have won the match! Georgio Wijnaldum looks a very good player.
