Youth Watch: Barcelona pair Yamal and Cubarsi shine once more


Stars from the top three in La Liga feature in Youth Watch this week as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Girona teens all make the cut. Valencia, Feyenoord and FC Koeln are also represented as we run through the 10 best performing teenagers across Europe this weekend.


10. Arda Guler (Real Madrid) - 7.11 vs Celta Vigo 


Arda Guler made just his fourth La Liga appearance of his career in Real Madrid's 4-0 win over Celta Vigo at the weekend but the Turkish youngster managed his first league goal of the campaign off the bench in the resounding victory. Despite featuring late on, the 19-year-old managed a WhoScored rating of 7.11. 


9. Damion Downs (FC Koeln) - 7.26 vs Gladbach 


Another sub to make the top 10, Damion Downs picked the perfect moment to score his first ever senior goal for FC Koeln to rescue a point in the Rhine Derby. Downs struck with his only shot to return a WhoScored rating of 7.26. 


8. Cristhian Mosquera (Valencia) - 7.36 vs Getafe 


Cristhian Mosquera played his part in Valencia's narrow 1-0 win over Getafe at the weekend as evidenced by a WhoScored rating of 7.36. The young centre-back made eight clearances and won five aerial duels as he continues to shine in his breakout campaign. 


7. Pau Cubarsi (Barcelona) - 7.50 vs Mallorca 


Another young Spanish defender excelling in his breakout La Liga season, Pau Cubarsi returned a WhoScored rating of 7.50 in Barcelona's narrow 1-0 win over Mallorca. The 17-year-old returned a 92.5% pass success rate from 80 attempted passes, and made five clearances and three tackles in the victory. 


6. Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United) - 7.51 vs Everton 


Manchester United's 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday was made possible by Alejandro Garnacho, who won two penalties against the Toffees. The Argentine also made two key passes and completed two dribbles to land a WhoScored rating of 7.51. 


5. Yankuba Minteh (Feyenoord) - 7.67 vs Heracles 


Featuring in fifth for the second week running, Yankuba Minteh netted his seventh league goal of the season in Feyenoord's 3-0 win over Heracles. The on-loan winger struck with his only shot, while three tackles and two key passes helped earn a WhoScored rating of 7.67.

4. Mio Backhaus (Volendam) - 7.76 vs PEC Zwolle 


Eredivisie footers Volendam held PEC Zwolle to a 1-1 draw at the weekend with teenage shotstopper Mio Backhaus putting in a solid shift between the sticks in the stalemate. Indeed, Backhaus made nine saves and two high ball claims in what was his fifth best rated performance of the campaign. 


3. Wouter Goes (AZ Alkmaar) - 7.80 vs Excelsior 


AZ Alkmaar cruised to a 4-0 home win over Excelsior on Sunday, with Wouter Goes holding firm at the heart of the defence. Goes chipped in with two tackles, two interceptions and two clearances to guarantee the clean sheet, while two key passes and two successful dribbles helped the Dutch teenager to a WhoScored rating of 7.80. 


2. Savio (Girona) - 8.01 vs Osasuna 


Savio netted his eighth league goal of the campaign in Girona's 2-0 win over Osasuna as he struck with his only shot in the victory. The Brazilian also completed three dribbles and was fouled four times to help return a WhoScored rating of 8.01. 


1. Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) - 8.09 vs Mallorca 


The second Barcelona player to feature here, Lamine Yamal is the best rated teenager in Europe this week having earned a WhoScored rating of 8.09 in Friday's win over Mallorca. Yamal netted his fourth league goal of the season, and was impressive off the ball as he made three tackles and two interceptions to claim top spot.
