I don't understand why Löw favors Schürrle above Sane.
Schürrle is fast, but bad dribbles, bad at shooting, bad first touches, bad passing,....(relatively)
Sane could have proven himself in this game like Kimmich and Gomez.
@taktiko Because Löw is stupid and too faithful to players that ones performed but haven`t shown any class since ( Podolski, ... ). You are right, Sane is the much better alternative in any aspect of the game, faster, better dribbler, better technique, more mobile and unpredictable. But hey, he brought at least Kimmich instead of Höwedes ! That was a major upgrade for the game. Hopefully Götze and Schürrle won`t play anymore and Sane will begiven a chance ...
Kimmich brought some sparks on the right side of the field; I was impressed. Finally, Germany was dangerous from both sides. And with a striker in the front. So many missed opportunities/unlucky bounces during the game that it doesn't give justice to this lineup, more balanced and more promising than the one in the previous games.
Germany looked much better today, their build-up play at least. Still a bit too slow and of course, wasteful with their chances but Northern Ireland never looked like doing a thing so it didn't matter. Gomez missed a couple of good chances but he did at least score. It gives Germany a much better balance playing with a genuine 9. Goetze was again poor. I honestly don't see any improvement since being labelled the wunderkind in his Dortmund days. Loew was too quick to drop Draxler. He gives Germany something that nobody else can offer- the ability to go past a defender. I would start him and Mueller either side of Oezil in the last 16 with Gomez in the 9. That looks pretty formidable with Kroos and Khedira sitting. McGovern was very good for Northern Ireland. Stopped this being a cricket score but was helped somewhat with some of the finishing, or lack of. Better from Germany but this performance wouldn't trouble a considerably better defensive team imo.
@SteveHyland " I honestly don't see any improvement since being labelled the wunderkind in his Dortmund days..." ---- No improvement , are you serious ? Götze got worse big time !! He no longer possesses any speed, dynamics, agility or mobility. There was a big artikel in the german magazine " focus " where he was compared with an 37 year old player who is just about to retire. It used to be that the opponent team was scared if he got the ball. Now it is his own team and fans....
Because of this result (and ours, poor austria muhahaha) after 40+ years we, hungarians, not only got thru the qualifiers , but we have reached the best 16!
@neumi17- It takes in account the poor finishing though. Do you think, overall, Germany were better than a 7.15 or are you highlighting the lack of disparity in the respective ratings? If it's the latter, then I agree. In comparison to Germany's 7.15, Northern Ireland were about a 3.5. It was essentially just stand there and hope Germany don't score with only the keeper playing well and the score didn't tell the story at all.
When both teams are content with the status quo it becomes a very boring advertisement for football & the Euros. Hopefully the Spain game will be better. Northern Ireland look like a League 2 side.
In general Germany lacks players who go in 1vs1 duells and try to beat their opponents. You can't just pass the ball around all the time without getting into individual situations with the defenders...
Right on whoscored ! You got the starting 11 right...
Official line up: Neuer (C) - Kimmich, Boateng, Hummels, Hector - Khedira, Kroos - Müller, Özil, Götze - Gomez.
Northern Ireland will obviously stick everybody behind the ball. A point will take them to 4 total which will in all likelihood be good enough to see them through as 1 of the 4 best 3rd placed teams. A point against the world champions for a country as small as N.I will be a good result in any situation so I don't see why they would open up given Germany's quality passing. Loew will likely start Goetze as a false 9 again. We'll see how it works out. Northern Ireland should look to attack Germany at set plays. I feel the N.Irish CBs will have the wood on Boateng in the air. I think Germany will win but only just, 1-0 maybe 2-0 with the 2nd goal coming late a la Ukraine.
@SteveHyland I don't know, North Ireland is very weak, probably the weakest team in the tournament but as Russia is playing at the moment, maybe they are the 2nd weakest team in the tournament ^^

@HunEndorfin shut up
@DelJuve Butthurt much? Are u, by any chanche, austrian? Next time dont look down on us, and wont get raped like the norwegians :)
The rating is a joke, 6,6 - 7,0? Really?

@SteveHyland Müller said that it was own inability rather than good defending. So yes, Ireland should be 5,8 or so...

1-1 Gomez to score
Ok, after 40 minutes it could be 7:0 and should be at least 3:0 ! Only one goal is a joke...
in fact Muller plays behind Gomez and Gotze more like on the left, but very good line-up by whoscored.com regarding who starts
manny corners here :) as for 1x2: 1-0 or 2-0 Germany
8 current or former Bayern players in the line up.

@SteveHyland If Germany scores early, we might see some more goals. Other than that I agree with you, most likely a a 1-0 win.
