I was surprised at the way Derby started. Utd didn't start particularly well and although they're very good at keeping the ball, that shouldn't have surprised the Rams. I expected to see a lot more hustling, tough challenges and to be brutal, effort, than I saw. I would've expected Derby to settle after they scored and presumably had a team talk at HT but the 2nd half was pretty much more of the same. Utd never looked like losing. It's what it should be given the disparity in resources but cup ties are never that simple. I just feel Derby did little to stop this from being a Utd win.
why does anybody think United will roll them over?
Why should they go with their best line up?
United will miss a lot of defenders(or players that could replace them) for this game, including Darmian, Rojo, Shaw, Jones, Young, Valencia along with DM Schweinsteiger.
I like what Paul Clement is doing at Derby, or attempting to do at least. For the most part he's just continuing the work Steve McClaren did, plays the same formation (4-3-3) with a box-to-box midfielder either side of the sitting DM and 2 pacy wingers-come-strikers either side of a genuine 9. They've had a few bad results recently but they're one of the few clubs in the championship who can play possession OR counter-attacking football. A good thing given whatever XI Utd put out (providing it's one made up of their first team squad), Derby will have a maximum of 40% of the ball. Clement has been touted as future Real Madrid, Arsenal and England head coaches and while it's farcical to predict that after just 1 managerial job, he must have something special to garner that high a praise. I can only really remember Jose Mourinho attracting that much hype in the infancy of his career of all the current managers in world football. Anyways, I'm going with a defensive 1-1 and a replay.
Great win, it should give the team more confidence going forward. Thumps up to Varela, Martial.
