Bad atmosphere today. Even when we went a goal up, there was minimal excitement. It's something which has been labelled at us before and I understand the apprehension of some fans, but it's the first game of the season. I think the booing was a bit pointless since this team will likely only represent 45% of our first XI come September 1st. As for the game, we were much the better team in the first half and deserved to go in 1 up. Then Liverpool hit a real purple patch and we saw everything you'd expect to see from a Klopp team that are playing well. We battled well to get it back to 3-4 but in the end, we didn't have enough. The Liverpool fans should be more pessimistic than the Gooners imo. While we had players in the team who likely wont play from September barring injuries, Liverpool had pretty much their first choice XI out yet still looked vulnerable. We should be contenders with a CB, RW and F. Liverpool have made their signings and clearly wont be contenders.
@SteveHyland It;s not the fans faults, there's only 1 person to blame for this and that's cheap skate Wenger.
Arsenal fans should be pessimistic because the club and manager have a small club mentality and absolutely thrashed us. They almost scored 5 goals in 20 minutes! Liverpool fans should be very optimistic because their coach has great tactical acumen and actually spends some fucking money.
@Overmars- It's not the fans fault we lost but it's embarrassing to see 30,000 looking like corpses even when we're winning and playing well not to mention the very ones booing were the ones who turned around after we scored our 2nd and started cheering. It was like a comedy sketch. I'm the biggest Wenger critic on here and have mentioned previously his lack of tactical nouse when Plan A doesn't work but Klopp is equally poor. This team, including his first choice defence (unless Matip replaces Lovren which he should) conceded 3 times against an Arsenal attack without a #9 and Oezil playing. We should've gone in at HT a couple of goals ahead. There's no excuse for Liverpool's spell but credit has to be given to the individuals. Coutinho wont better that free kick, Mane wont score a better goal than his this season and Lallana would usually miss the attempt he scored. This is as good as it gets for Liverpool. I agree Wenger needs to spend but I firmly believe he will- then we can judge.
@SteveHyland
You cannot blame Arsenal fans for booing Wenger! 12th season and the manager refuses to address our weak areas of the team. We knew full well that Liverpool are coming to attack with 5 attacking midfielders. Why didn't Wenger start Monreal at CB with Gibbs on the left. Why didn't Xhaka with Ox start? Sanchez, Elneny and Ramsey were ineffective why keep them on? If you analyse the game it was Wengers's tactics that lost Arsenal the game. When Ox and Cazorla came on, Ox scored and Santi claimed one assist. Liverpool were panicking but it was too late. Arsene Wenger is no longer a surprise. He's an old head, stubborn and shall add a special manager who ha a survived more than a decade of being a failure.
@LondonGun- I can't blame them for booing, I've done the same, but it's where and when which is important and the first game when the XI doesn't represent the one which will likely start from September is premature. Monreal at CB would've been a terrible move against this Liverpool front 3 and in any case Chambers did ok considering. If Ramos played how he did yesterday, people would say he "makes things happen" because he scored but Chambers isn't a 'Galactico' so.... Chamberlain is always hit and miss which is why he doesn't get a run of starts, Xhaka I agree with and I do believe he will start next week but there is no way you take a game-changer like Sanchez off. He can come up with a bit of magic from absolutely nowhere and win/save us the game. He carried our attack 2 seasons ago so you don't sub players of his ilk. Ramsey had a great Euros so Wenger was clearly hoping it would continue and Cazorla isn't 100% fit so didn't start. If it's the same in 5 games then boo.
For all the moaning and crying, there was only 1 goal in it. And it could have ended 4-4 or 4-3 even, had Walcott converted his penalty, and Coutinho not been given that soft foul. So it's not in fact the end of the world.
@What4 You're delusional mate. We were absolutely hammered in 20 minutes and could have been hit for 6. Played our best player out of position, he barely had a kick or won a header all game. No decent fit central defenders, no striker (why hasn't RVP been replaced in 5 years!), insane negligent transfer policy and the usual capitulation on the opening day.
"What ifs" are the providence of losers with a loser mentality. If my auntie had bollocks she'd be my uncle.
@WazzaFC How can you moan about how good your team is? Does that make any sense? That's why you shouldn't stoop to argue with Man U fans. And anyway, half our 1st XI was missing and we were still able to basically draw with Liverpool.
three years ago when I found whoscored, it was something which was missing from the interweb, now whoscored is jogging behind sofascore which is stepping up.
I found sofascore almost at the same time as whoscored, but the progress has been immense and today sofascore is my daily driver for football even though I love the whoscored statistics
Not so sure why people are assuming Liverpool will win. Yes they beat a 90% Barcelona team 4-0 but they also lost to Mainz. That is what you get with Klopp- inconsistency and going from the sublime to the ridiculous. Liverpool could win this by a big score but Arsenal could also do the same. It's the toughest opening match to predict so I'm not going to. I hope we win but it could be anything from 5-0 Arsenal to 5-0 Liverpool depending on a multitude of factors.
Don't underrate Arsenal... Arsenal will win this game but the scoreline I don't know...back Arsenal to score 2 or more goals on the counter because Liverpool will do most of the attacking because why??? they beat Barcelona 4-0 and it has gotten into their heads.
Wenger said earlier Cazorla isn't ready to start until the end of the month, I wonder if his situation has changed. Coquelin could start instead of him if he's not ready. Ramsey should play more advanced position, while either Walcott or Sanchez will lead the line, although Akpom is option from the bench. Defense is our biggest concern, Monreal or Debuchy could indeed start as center back like few times in the past. Liverpool looks sharper and more dangerous but defense is their weakness too so we could see some goals. Wijnaldum has a chance to start in midfield but Henderson could be better option for now because of his defensive work. Pool have an excellent chance to get a flying start for the season which they need since otherwise their schedule is a total nightmare. 1-3.
@Castle Iwobi is probably ahead of Oxlade-Chamberlain and Walcott right now. I don't know why everyone is picking Holding ahead of Chambers, the latter should start. And none of Liverpool's front three are exactly prolific goal-scorers, so it should be a close match.
@What4 Iwobi could start on left if Sanchez plays up front. I haven't seen Holding play so it's hard to say if he should start or not but hopefully we can field a reliable center back pairing. Liverpool's attackers may not be clinical but they play well together and have tremendous energy. Their pressing could cause us troubles if we're sloppy in possession. It could be a close match but score line doesn't always reflect that.
@Castle- Holding looked a bit shaky against City tbh which was the only real test he faced in preseason. He isn't ready yet imo but shows promise for the future. Ideally he would be loaned out to a prem team but we don't have that luxury. Mustafi & Koscielny will be the pairing from the Watford game onwards & that looks a good pairing to me, so I'm not worried after this and the Leicester game. The injury to Gabriel is a killer. He looked far better in preseason than he did last year. Bielek looks calm in defence. He and Chambers would be the best pairing for me. I'm not a fan of Wenger's defensive 'solutions' (ie playing a LB as a CB). It rarely works. I would prefer 2 people who are used to that position. Iwobi has looked sharp in preseason so he will start on the left, probably Chamberlain on the right with Ramsey in the 10 and Coquelin & Xhaka in CM. That is how Wenger started things against City and I expect him to do the same here with Cazorla not 100% match fit.
@SteveHyland Yesterday Pep used Kolarov as a CB. Did the same at Bayern with Alaba. Except when he does it he's a "tactical genius", who "gives his players an education" and "get's the maximum out of them" blah blah blah.
@What4- Yep, we'll have a fair bit of "tactical genius" spouted from our media this season despite the fact Pep failed to win the champions league whilst having the best team.
Banter team is back and mediocrity will continue for another season ( 12+years) and as a utd fan i would be happy to see klopp win against arsene "mediocre" wenger.
@WazzaFC- Wenger has been mediocre in recent memory, and I'm his biggest critic of all Arsenal fans on here, but he revolutionised football in this country and that is undeniable. From the professionalism to the quality of football played. Your beloved Utd played the best football in England before Wenger came but in comparison to the best in Europe, they were poor. Wenger's teams played football as good as anyone on the continent. In 1995, players in this country were still going to the pub & eating take-away food. Almost overnight he changed that at Arsenal and the rest of the prem followed. Remember, Ferguson was Mr 4-4-2 and played that system against everyone (including Bayern in the '99 CL final) but he always changed the formation to 4-3-3 against Wenger's Arsenal. Fergie was a better man-motivator & horses-for-courses tactician- which led to more success, but if you ask all the great managers who had the biggest impact on footballing identity of the prem, they would say Arsene.
@SteveHyland Well said, Wenger is great manager but he's bit more director of football material than coach. In recent season Arsenal would have benefited more of someone calculating tactician and motivator than Wenger kind of idealist.
@Castle- I'm sure this will be his last season and he will move up to DoF. He is a highly intelligent man, is likeable and has a great standing within the game. He will attract players and sell the club to them. Koeman as manager with Wenger as DoF would be ideal imo.
@WazzaFC The two seasons since Sir Alex left you spent £300M and finished 4th and 5th, and below Arsenal. That is abject failure, nevermind "mediocrity".
@What4 It's not my money so i would be happy atleast they are trying to improve unlike arsenal who knew what they need still they don't buy players. Keep that mediocrity going on for another decade as you won't be winning another pl title under wenger again.
That's why we brought mourinho and signed world class players without cl and arsenal are linked with johnny evans..LOL
Firmino leading line along with mane and coutinho will sure destroy the Arsenal secondary defence lineup. First game at away will sure bring 3 points to Liverpool.
I think it will be Monreal and Chambers, to start at CB, while Gibbs plays the LB. If Mustafi's deal is true, its unlikely it is competed on time to register for this game. Walcott to lead the line with Carzola playing behind him. I'll like to see the Ox deployed on the right wing and Sanchez on the left. Selecting who starts at the Central midfield will be a headache for Wenger for sure.
It appears that Liverpool fans have finally accepted how shit they are when they purchase all their players from smaller sides and haven't felt the need to be here predicting a top four finish.
Liverpool will be far ahead of us due to their intense pre-season and our best players coming back from the Euros/copa america. Only hope for us is that Mignolet is in goal.Hoping for a win but I reckon LFC will get at least a point. Also hoping beyond hope that we sign a striker before this game.
Sounds like Arsenal are going to be very weakened and they've also not even started their pre-season games yet, I can see Liverpool getting at least a point from this and based on the odds there's great value there.
2013/14: Arsenal finished 4th
2014/15: Arsenal finished 3rd
2015/16: Arsenal finished 2nd
2016/17: Arsenal may finish 1st following the trend. Go Arsenal, go Arsene Wenger this is your season.
@TSN Nochance for Arsenal this season. But will finish 4 if good luck with them.
& there no chance for L.city too. In this season will dominate Man.U, City....
With all honour to big teams/names. Thanks All

liverpool is intresting. kloop is a good Coach. I am excited. Arsenal needs to add a good striker.
Defense is unknown word in EPL :|
@zenbhi- It is, because we spell it the correct way. :-p

how come whoscored has missed the yellow card Klavan received mind boggling and lousy
Why haven't we signed a bloody cb and striker? This season is over before it has even started.
Incredibly soft foul for Coutinho's freekick. But credit where it's due, it was a brilliant goal (that should have never been given).
@What4 salt
1-3 Liverpool wins.
I am an Arsenal fan but I agree with the prediction and anyways a defeat will probably force Arsène to buy a CB and striker
I think Mane will be MOTM
0-3
0-2
BTTS for sure.

@SlippinJimmy I see top 4 for them, however.
Whoscored's Premier League banner will feature Pogba (if he hasn't arrived yet, Ibra), Sanchez, De Bruyne and Kane. This game? 2-2.
Arsenal to win
@Dejilero Is Wenger going to play CB?
@sgshaw We'd still get a win.
@What4 Wrong we were dogshite, almost conceded 5 goals in 20 minutes.
