Sweet to see Santi scoring the winner and Koscielny bossing his position. Theo caged once again. Mustafi did great keeping play away from the Arsenal 18-yard box; awesome tactic because Saints can steal ball. Hard-fought victory
Should've lost vs Leicester and drew today, Arsenal riding on luck.
@bradley.fcb u r right . I sweared to my brothers that there will be a penalty in last minuts for Arsenal. They said why? I said luck and ref are always arsenal savers. Sorry for Arsenal fans but your team should be (EPL BARCA)with these names and skills.
@bradley.fcb Don't be deluded, what do you call Tadic's freekick if not luck?
Mustafi and Perez are top, top, top quality gentlemen, they know you don't turn down The Arsenal when they come knocking.
Given the importance of PSG away on Tuesday and all odds currently being against Arsenal to win in Paris I believe Wenger will not start the most important players like Sanchez,Cazorla and potentially Xhaka. Ozil probably will play half a game depending on where the score might be but I fancy him with a goal and assist and to relax after and get ready for a much bigger game on Tuesday. I see Elneny starting in midfield probably with Coquelin and Iwobi/Ox on the left and Walcott on the right. I really fancy Perez getting a goal for his birthday today and I somehow fancy him starting but not sure when Giroud is Wenger's son!. taking stats from last encounter with Southampton, where Ozil broke EPL record of creating 9 goal scoring chances in one game and Frazier Forster having the best game of his football life, I believe there wont be a repeat this time and I see Arsenal winning the game to nil probably 2/3:0!
@albgunn lol. Giroud is the first son and Walcott the second
Arsenal wins 2-1
btts - yes
I won't be surprised if Sanchez starts from the bench due to arriving late from Internationals. This is why you need squad depth rather than risking injury, plus we have a big game of Tuesday against PSG. Wenger indicated in his Press conf. that he may work more with players who did not travel for the Internationals or people who did not play a lot for their country. Based on this I expect player like Coquelin, Carzola, Monreal, Ox, Walcott and even Iwobi (if fit) to start the game. I think Mustafi will certainly start the game otherwise what is the point paying £35 for a player who is fit, only to bench him for a 20 yr old prospect? Perez may have to start from the bench.
2-1 Arsenal win.
Eagerly waiting how the kosheliny/mustafi partnership works up in defense .And Holding been good too,i see great talent in him.
The AFC defence has to prove it has taken focus. And the attackers need to prove the recent spree isn't a fluke. Against a team that has recent years showed to enjoy giving Arsene hell and keeping Theo quiet, regardless their (Southampton's) form, it is a game with A LOT TO PROVE. The level of calm and confidence they exude should come with concrete wins. IF Alexis and Carzola are in their elements, I foresee an entertaining 3-1 home win. Otherwise Granit and Koscielny will need a game of their life to help AFC nip a hard-fought win over so-called bogey team. Either Santi or Mesut for MOTM. #LetsGo!
Excited to see Lucas make his debut for Arsenal. May even seen Mustafa. Southampton meanwhile will have Boufal who is very highly rated. Arsenal have to look out for Redmond and Long. Shane Long always seems to play like a god against us and a pub player versus everyone else.
@Overmars Indeed. Can people finally admit now that we did some great transfer business? Yes we spent quite a lot, but spent it very well too, e.g. not paying £40M for kids with potential. We probably had the best transfer window of all teams, but does Wenger ever get the credit?
@What4- Would've been happier had we bought a genuine #9. Somebody who does what Giroud does in general play as well as have a better conversion rate. I don't see Perez as that type of player, I actually think he'll struggle to convert much above 1 in 7 long-term in this league, which is what Giroud does, and converting chances stopped us from winning the league last term. We really need someone categorically better than Olivier, not somebody who is a jack of all trades across the front line. I think Wenger did very well getting Mustafi. I would've preferred Koulibaly but Shkodran is a good defender in the true terms- positioning, tackling and aerially. He also gets rid of the ball quickly and accurately rather than dick around with it causing potential 'errors leading to goal'. I actually think Chelsea did the best business getting David Luiz. Who knew Conte was actually an Arsenal, City, Utd, Spurs and Liverpool fan? :-p
@SteveHyland Perez is a no.9, what are you talking about? Agree about Conte, but on the other hand, he did magically make £15M appear in Roman's bank account, as if he needed the extra cash.
@Overmars Iwobi may also be back for this game, probably on the bench.
Although Soton have been a bogey team away from home, at the Emirates we have a very good record. This fixture last year was unbelievable, Forster having the best game I've seen from a keeper in a while. Not sure the diamond will work given we get so much from our wide players in attack. The diamond only really works nowadays when you have 4 quality midfielders (Pirlo, Marchisio, Vidal and Pogba for example) and 2 strikers who can hustle. Neither of which Southampton have. I don't think it will be long before Puel switches to 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. Whatever the formation, I think we'll win. Would be surprised if we concede so will go with 2-0.
