Team News

Middlesbrough
Tottenham
  • James Husband, Grant Leadbitter, Fabio and Jordan Rhodes are all ruled out for the hosts.
  • Cristhian Stuani and Adam Clayton are both doubts here, with the latter set to undergo a late fitness test.
  • Other than that, Aitor Karanka is unlikely to make wholesale changes.
  • Harry Kane sustained a nasty ankle injury in the 1-0 win over Sunderland with summer signing Vincent Janssen expected to start as the lone frontman.
  • Danny Rose has recently been sidelined with a thigh problem, but should start at the Riverside Stadium after taking part in training in the week, but Erik Lamela could drop to the bench after playing the full 90 minutes in midweek.
  • Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier were, like Kane, forced off in last Sunday's victory, though both came off with cramp. However, the latter could start from the bench, with Victor Wanyama partnering the former.

Prediction

  • After winning start to the season, Middlesbrough have not won in four, losing back-to-back league games. They have, however, lost only one of their last four home league meetings with Spurs, though they haven't played the north London side at the Riverside Stadium in league competition since 2008.
  • Tottenham are one of three unbeaten teams in England's top tier this term and have lost just the once in all competitions this season. Mauricio Pochettino's side come into this tie on the back of a 5-0 EFL Cup win, and so confidence will be high coming into this meeting with Boro.
  • Middlesbrough have had a longer rest period ahead of this encounter, but Spurs have the quality in depth to secure all three points here.

  • son!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @water On fire ...also5 dribbles at ht

  • Interesting to see if Sissoko plays alongside Wanyama or if he plays on the right and Alli or Eriksen drops deeper. Against Monaco Tottenham played Alli alongside Dier in the first half and it didn't work at all, although I doubt Middlesbrough offers such a threat. But hey, if you play badly anyone can beat you.

  • 0 ~ 2 Spurs

  • Don't you think Son will play considering his good form? He was also rested during the week for the EFL cup game.

  • @mkunited I do think he will

  • Spurs will lose here 2-1

  • @buthethi How so ?

  • 0x3

  • go spurs

  • Tottenham have quite a luxury now to play Lamela at midweeks and rest him weekends as in my opinion he belongs definitely in their best XI. But against struggling Boro it's wise to bring Sissoko or Son in as former would adjust to his new team and latter would stay sharp. Spurs have much more and better working options now for Lamela-Alli-Eriksen trio compared to last season, and Wanyama can play in place of Dier and even Dembele if needed. Now they just have to get Janssen into game as Kane is out for a while.

  • 0-1 Spurs Harry Kane injured

  • @Overmars expect a red card in this game
