- Patrick van Aanholt overcame a heart problem to start in the 3-2 defeat against Crystal Palace last weekend and looks to be over that now.
- Adnan Januzaj has been ruled out for six weeks after picking up ankle ligament damage towards the end of that defeat, while Steven Pienaar was also unlikely to feature this weekend after lasting just 15 minutes against Palace. Duncan Watmore and Wahbi Khazri could be options to replace the aforementioned injured duo.
- Victor Anichebe and Lee Cattermole have also been ruled out for David Moyes, who now has real problems as the injuries keep adding up.
- Illness kept Brendon Galloway out of the starting XI against Stoke last weekend but it remains to be seen if he is fit enough to return for the trip to Sunderland on Saturday. If that is the case then fellow summer signing Nyom will continue at left-back.
- Chris Brunt has gradually been stepping up his fitness in matches for the Under-23s but isn't expected to make his first-team return until after the international break. Jonathan Leko ended a one-game absence with a two-minute cameo off the bench against Stoke, in which he played the ball that set-up Salomon Rondon's last gasp equaliser.
