Team News
Arsenal
WBA
- Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is ruled out for Arsenal's Boxing Day match against West Brom after lasting just 12 minutes as a substitute before being forced off in the second half of their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City because of injury.
- With a host of players ruled out due to injury, there may be few changes from the side that lost to City on Sunday. Mohamed Elneny may profit with a chance in the team here.
- Danny Welbeck is back in full training although isn't expected to feature on Monday.
- Jonny Evans has missed West Brom's last two matches due to injury and he remains a doubt for the trip to Arsenal on Monday.
- Following Nacer Chadli's anonymous showing against Manchester United last time out, Tony Pulis may have wanted to recall James Morrison to the team for the trip to Arsenal but the midfielder hasn't trained all week due to illness and appears unlikely to feature here.
- Salomon Rondon escaped an FA ban for his altercation with United defender Marcos Rojo and is free to play here.
When is Perez gonna get his fair share of minutes.
Hard to fault the performance. WBA clearly came for the draw. Unlike some teams who, when they play away from home, sit back and look to counter attacks as their primary/exclusive scoring avenue whilst looking to WIN, this was a performance where Pulis was looking for a draw. I don't like those negative tactics unless a draw is all that is required (2nd of a 2-legged tie; a draw to stay in the division etc) so this was a justified win on every level.
One assist, one dribble, 107 passes, 7 key passes, one shot. Decent game of Özil, best for a long time yet still away from being good ...
How Arsenal is poor. i feel sorry for players and wenger.
yeaaaaaah Girouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud c'mon ya gunners
3-1 for Arsenal
1-1
With the match versus West Brom being Arsenal’s only fixture this week and the Ox missing through injury, the Arsenal team I’d like to see versus West Brom is: GK: Cech RB: Jenkinson CB: Holding CB: Koscielny LB: Monreal CDM: Coquelin CDM: Xhaka RW: Walcott CAM: Ozil LW: Perez CF: Alexis With that setup I’d be expecting a defensively solid performance from the back 5 and central midfield, quick transitional play through Xhaka’s long passes, creative interplay between Ozil and Alexis and off the ball attacking runs through on goal from Perez and Walcott. COYG!!
In order for us to say that we are truly different this season, we need to win our next 6 games (which are against lesser sides). Then we need to beat Chelsea for us to be seriously considered as title contenders. At the moment I do not really see an improvement from seasons past.
I prewdict a Fx1 odd for Arsenal.
(Total goals under 3,5) at the last West Brom away matches (8/8).(Arsenal not lost) at the last (7/7) home matches. West Brom condided under 1,5 goals at the away matches (8/7). No bet!. Probably 1-0 or 1-1
Why Perez can't start an Arsenal game? Wenger should stop fcking about with that kid Iwobi! He's useless and offers nothing to the team as a forward. He has so many minutes under his belt this season but he still only has a goal for the season! Can't stand him since he had missed massive game changing chances against PSG in CL. Against Spurs when we played them at home and against Everton last minute where he had the goal from 5 years and managed to hit Bainess on the goal line instead! I'm sick of the sight of him. He should be nowhere near first team and nowhere in CL or EPL games especially! Monreal should let Gibbs play! He's been poor too! After our last two performances I cannot see Arsenal turning things around against a very origanised West Brom who are also due an upset! We don't have the players to perform when needed and I could see the fans turning whilst the game is on if Arsenal don't start the game strong!
After two blatant fixes Arsenal should win here by single goal. 1-0 or 2-1
@koziol.mutant Are you suggesting that the Arsenal players were bribed to play so badly for two games?
Pulis will park the bus and will nick a goal in the end 1-0.
Arsenal should win .
3-1
Arsenal 1 - 0 West Brom
it's a draw here Westbrom may cause problems to tricky Arsenal 1-1 or 2-2
If we score 2 or more then we'll win. The last 2 matches have been disappointing primarily in how we had the result in our hands, failed to press home the advantage when we were on top and gave it away so feebly. All of the title contenders will drop points as well as take points off of the other contenders imo, there just isn't much separating numbers 1 and 5 with the players currently fit for the respective teams. A resounding win here will help build confidence, from the fans as much as anything, not least because we're facing Pulis who has historically done ok against us. Given West Brom defend so deep as a rule (particularly away), I would start Giroud. Runs in behind the defence are unlikely to happen and Olivier needs some game time anyway. I believe both Alexis and Oezil will need to be rested against Palace so they are available against Bournemouth 2 days later but I would start them here. I think we'll win 3-1 to start the repairing.
@SteveHyland I'd love to see Lucas start some games. He's clinical and left-footed so offers something different to our other wingers. As Giroud and Alexis are fit he's 3rd choice ST so he has to get minutes on the wing. Also agree with you with regards to El Neny and Gibbs, but I think this match may be closer than you think 1-0 to Arsenal would be my prediction.
@Overmars- You were right. We knew West Brom would be defensive but I still thought we'd get the breakthrough earlier then get a 2nd closely after. Still, a win is a win and a clean sheet is a welcome change.
@SteveHyland I agree with you about starting Giroud. I think Lucas Perez should also start this one. He may be the spark that Arsenal needs at a time like this.
@Valor- I would start him too, with a view to also starting him against Palace. The way Monreal played against City, I think Gibbs deserves a run of games and I would also get the most out of Elneny before he leaves for the African nations' in January. Ramsey wont be fit for this game in all likelihood so I would go with: Cech, Bellerin, Gabriel, Koscielny, Gibbs, Elneny, Xhaka, Perez, Oezil, Alexis, Giroud (Perez and Sanchez switching wings on occasion so as to prevent predictability of cutting inside, making defending against us simple/narrow).
3-2 or 2-2
Arsenal 3-0 Westbrom.Sanchez,Ozil & Walcott to score
