It's difficult to say whether Mignolet would've saved Luiz's free kick had he been set in his position, but he definitely would've had more of a chance to. Before that, Liverpool looked in control. Once Chelsea scored, they were even more defensive than they started. Liverpool were too narrow in the first half, playing most things centrally but Chelsea did defend well so credit has to go to them. Liverpool were much better in the 2nd half. Firmino missed a few of those chances at Hoffenheim. Terrible contact borne from a lack of composure. I think the tackle on Milner is a penalty IF Hazard's is a free kick, personally I think neither were- but both were equally 'bad'. Chelsea went to Anfield trying not to lose and they achieved that. With Arsenal and Spurs dropping points, I find it difficult to see any other winner of the title than Chelsea, irrespective of the result this coming weekend.
Good fight of Liverpool, could have been a win but a draw is ok.The lack of passing skills of many players is frightening though. In no other of the big leagues you see so many technical errors and bad passing. Despite the relatively good result against Chelsea you can see that Liverpool lacks creativity big time. Hardly ever you see surprising moves or unpredictable plays. In that aspect pool is a very agerage and boring team ...
@Im10 You think ? Both teams had hardly any good chances, shots on target were 3-2 in favor for Liverpool.Pedro could have scored but so could have Firmino as well. Pretty equal ...
Even if Liverpool will win, I think Klopp did some bad choices. It's awful to play lallana among the three forwards. He is still not efficient in this position since 3 years. However, he will be one of the bests if he plays in the place of one these 2 average midfielders (can, wijnaldum) who do not have the level to play champions league football as Liverpool expected to reach next year. And firmino is like an empty shell, he has good ratings and good numbers but he isn't involved enough in the game and made a lot of evitable mistakes. It makes me sad to see sturridge in the bench. The englishman is the one who can open things up out of nothing, and it's very rare to see that especially from overpayed and overrated british players.
Oddly this is gonna be a victory for Liverpool probably. Klopp keeps on repeating what he already did with Dortmund. His team is good and gets decent results when they play strong opponents ! Than their pressing/counterpressing football works the best. But if they face little or weak teams who sit back defensively Klopp teams have no clue what to do and lose quite often, even against second league teams. That is because neither Dortmund nor Liverpool are creative enough in midfield to outplay even defensive but weak teams. The record of losses against poor teams is with Liverpool as high as it was with Dortmund. The record of victories against stronger opponents is also similar ...
@neumi17- Gegenpressing works better for teams who play on the counter against equally strong or stronger footballing teams too imo, kind of makes sense given the name. Lol. It probably explains why Klopp (and Schmidt) seem to have more success against those who attack than those defending, although tbf even teams who employ Bielsa-pressing, which works better for those who like to dominate imo (Poch, Pep), find it difficult when teams stick 6 or 7 at the back. There comes a point where defending in numbers nullifies any attacking tactics.
Liverpool is playing really well against top teams but no chance at this. Maybe a draw but they can't win with this team. Mane is not a factor for winning, it's just scouser's hope. 0-2
Anyone factoring in Sadio Mane, obviously didn't see him carrying the Senegalese team for 120+ minutes in baking Gabon heat, less than 72 hours ago. If he does feature, it'll be a very tired cameo.
For the past few years, Liverpool have dropped points several times to bottom of the table teams, but if you were to look at their matchups against Top 6 teams, they always play well. They have no losses in 6 games vs. the Top 6 this season, and 4 of these matches were on the road. And let's also not forget that Liverpool dominated a majority of the game at Chelsea earlier this season. Mane will be back and the team will finally be back to full strength faced with their last chance to turn their season around. I'm predicting Liverpool to make a statement tonight, 3-1.
@soccerhead100 You could argue Chelsea as a team was in a very different spot than they are now. And factoring in Mané? the guy just played 120 mins in the heat in Africa, then flew back to England to play. Not sure how his fatique is
@AmazingNinja :That's twice now so I have to say something!!! Why do people (here) think "the heat in Africa" is a problem for Africans? Extremely bizarre reasoning that I hope you don't gamble with. If Mane is affected at all it will be as a result of returning to cold foreign weather which usually inspires athletes to be even more active.
@AmazingNinja The two were tied in the league table at the time of their first match, but I have to agree, it's been almost 4 months. But you have to include the fact that Chelsea has played one Top 6 team in the past two months, and they were handled by Tottenham. Mané surely won't play a full game, but he's going to create a handful of chances regardless. He's going to allow everyone in the midfield to slip back into their natural positions and make everyone around him better in the process.
When I saw the bookies offering 2-1 on Chelsea, I thought they'd gone 'full retard'. Liverpool have been awful all month, with or without Henderson and Lalana. Chelsea have been utterly commanding in all of their games, even when they've looked fatigued. Liverpool have one of the frailest defences in the Premiership. This won't be close.
Liverpool are clueless ATM. However, they have been very good against their top 6 opponents this season. Chelsea on the other side are on a roll. They have won 15 of the last 16.Going against them in this match is risky. They will also want some revenge against Liverpool that beat them earlier this season. Furthermore, Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 5 competitive fixtures at Anfield. A draw is the most likely result here, but for gamblers, go for X2 to beon the safe side.
Chelsea won at the last 15\16 matches in the League. Liverpool failed win at the last 3 matches. I check if Liverpool condided goal in home 7\7 Total goals over 2.5. Total goals under 4.5 at the last 11/11 Chelsea away matches. Anyway Liverpool form going down. I think Chelsea wins. I guess 1-3
Chelsea win or draw in my opinion. The Blues are in phenomenal form and are playing vs. a weak Liverpool with very low morale. Normally, I would go with just a win for Chelsea, but it's safer this way and the odd is good.
Remember this is the only competition Liverpool have this time, given their poor form in recent games this one is different so expect difficult tactical game
Everyone barring Chelsea fans are hoping for a Liverpool win. Even without Mane, it's possible. Defensive errors and a poor conversion rate have cost them in recent weeks and will ultimately prove to be why (despite having the bonus of no European fixtures) they will fail to win the league imo. I've been saying it all season and will continue to until proven otherwise. However, if they are on-form here then they can score 3 past this Chelsea defence. It is one which still contains match-losers like David Luiz and Cahill after all. Coutinho has to start, and on the left, and Firmino has to be played through the middle where he is at his best. Lallana deputising on the right will need to display the dribbling skills he did while at Southampton and take on Cahill whenever possible. You don't need to be fast to beat a man, you can also do so with guile which tbf Adam has. Going for a bold prediction of 3-2 with 1 of Liverpool's goals being a penalty which Milner will invariably stick away.
@SteveHyland Mane will be available if I'm not mistaken, if he although personally I wish we had taken more action in the transfer window. We need to offload Sturridge and bring in a better backup to Firmino than Origi and Sturridge have proven to be, and capturing William Carvalho would've been amazing to our midfield balance. Henderson could then play his strongest CM role with Lallana playing LAM essentially, and Carvalho CDM.
@sarigginsUSA- You're right, just seen a picture of him with the Liverpool squad so he will almost certainly play. Sturridge looks like a square peg in a round hole in Klopp's system so I agree he should be sold. I think Origi could develop into the type of player Klopp needs long term but as it stands, Firmino is certainly the central figure best suited to Juergen's tactics.
@Ferit22- I'm not an enemy of Chelsea, you lot seems to be paranoid. Everybody dislikes Chelsea to some degree for obvious reasons much like City, PSG etc. My reason for wanting the Pool to win this game are obvious as an Arsenal fan, and the reasons for why Liverpool could win actually were objectively derived. Chelsea are favourites but not many people would argue Liverpool on-form COULD win at home and score a few.
Klopp won't lose 4 in the row at Anfield! Chelsea massive favourites but this is same Liverpool side that thrashed the living of everyone they played until a month ago. I'm not a fan of neither but Liverpool will come back strong in this match. So Liverpool have dropped form but they have same squad more or less. Saido Mane is not Luis Suarez as some are making him out to be so Liverpool will still be strong without him. Even though there's a chance Mane will feature as his side crashed out of ACN. Chelsea are now playing a very predicable line up and have struggled lately.
This game will be won by Liverpool by a 2 goal margin.
@denisgrad I'm always an optimist and I believe we can conceivably win, however, I will concede that Chelsea are strong favorites for this game. If we secure William Carvalho in time, it could give us a huge boost and much more balance in midfield.
@albgunn No, not really. Carvalho is a true CDM while Henderson is not. Hendo has done well but he'd do better at CM. Also, Emre Can and Wijnaldum have not cut it at RCM this season.
It would be so entertaining if the top 5 teams could each possibly win the league or miss Champions League in the final few weeks. Hoping for a Liverpool win!
This game is going to be very crazy, Liverpool have not won the last 3 games and need the victory anyway, while we have the best team in the competition who do not want to lose and end up decreasing their advantage in the lead.
weather clear??!!!
It's difficult to say whether Mignolet would've saved Luiz's free kick had he been set in his position, but he definitely would've had more of a chance to. Before that, Liverpool looked in control. 14 tackles by kante. amazing!
@XsTream He is gonna be a nightmare to the big clubs in the Champions League next season....
@XsTream stats don't explain how impressive Kante is on the pitch. Sometimes I thought he had a twin with him
Good fight of Liverpool, could have been a win but a draw is ok.The lack of passing skills of many players is frightening though. @neumi17 Did you forget the Costa penalty? If he scored it would of been game over.
Ball doesn't lie. Matip got the ball.
Even if Liverpool will win, I think Klopp did some bad choices. It's awful to play lallana among the three forwards. He is still not efficient in this position since 3 years. @modric97 Wijnaldum should've been played at RF with Lallana at CM. Wijnaldum has scored though so maybe we can win.
Chelsea have so much space on the break. Hard to see this not being decisive.
Oddly this is gonna be a victory for Liverpool probably. Klopp keeps on repeating what he already did with Dortmund. His team is good and gets decent results when they play strong opponents ! Liverpool lose to Chelsea just like they did to the wolves
Anyone factoring in Sadio Mane, obviously didn't see him carrying the Senegalese team for 120+ minutes in baking Gabon heat, less than 72 hours ago. If he does feature, it'll be a very tired cameo.

@SteveHyland Agree 100%
@SteveHyland A bold prediction with explicit reasoning based on objective observations. A wish there were more of them on here.
@MEHJones- Thanks a lot, although we are agreeing far too much to be rival fans. Ha
@MEHJones Objective reasoning my 4ss. The guy is the biggest Chelsea enemy in here, no wonder he'll cheer for the Liverpool

@SteveHyland City and PSG don't have an equivalent history of shameless racist behaviour among a significant potion of their fans.
sure chelsea win 5-0
@SamuelOkellogum- 2-0 to Liverpool it is then. ;-)
@SteveHyland LOL!
LIV 3 - 1 CHE

Liverpool will be up for this one but if Matip doesn't feature they will almost certainly concede... Maybe a hard fought 1-1 or 2-2.

With or without Mane.... Chelsea will win. Liverpool defenders beware of PHC
liverpool is very poor . they dont have any chance in EPL. chelsea win
Liverpool NEED to win this.
@sarigginsUSA Indeed they do. But they wont. Maximum a draw for them.

@6seconds This sound so dumb to be honest.
Chelsea Win 2-1
am scared of this game hopefully we edge it. Liverpool have proved to be a handful to the top 6 for the last 2 seasons. But i go for a 2-1 Chelsea
Huge game, bad timing for Liverpool. Mane won't be back whatever happens in Senegal v Cameroon I think. 3-1 Chelsea.
This game is going to be very crazy, Liverpool have not won the last 3 games and need the victory anyway, while we have the best team in the competition who do not want to lose and end up decreasing their advantage in the lead.

Klopp win, I hope!
