Team News
FC Basel 1893
Arsenal
- Serey Die is available following a suspension that ruled him out of the draw with Ludogorets last time out in the competition.
- Jean-Paul Boetius, Manuel Akanji and Kevin Bua are all doubts for the Swiss side.
- Taulant Xhaka is expected to face off against his brother Granit in midfield.
- Francis Coquelin is suspended for Arsenal and with Santi Cazorla sidelined, Mohamed Elneny should start alongside Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park.
- Elsewhere, Arsene Wenger is without Danny Welbeck, Per Mertesacker, Chuba Akpom, Hector Bellerin and Mathieu Debuchy through injury, while Olivier Giroud is a doubt.
- Wenger could ring the changes, with Lucas Perez, Alex Iwobi, Aaron Ramsey and Kieran Gibbs all possibly starting.
these season is very different. usually, when the season in the end of the year, so many main players were injured, but these season, Arsenal just lost Cazorla and belerin, the others can play, Wenger have so many option from back till the front, hopefully, Arsenal can win the title of premiere league and FA, and Champions perhaps, at least Arsenal can goes to FINAL, go go gunners....!!!
We have too many options for that front four, Perez tonight, and Welbeck coming back too. Not bad! Basel are not bad either, had some decent chances to score. If they were in the Europe League, they could probably do quite well. Gibbs was excellent, should be credited with an assist for the 2nd goal, is that how it goes with these stats? Holding very assured too, very calm under pressure. Can't really criticise anyone. And now, the draw! Bring on Bayern!
I was there. The worst performance from Basel in CL. Arsenal needed only 60% to control the game and scored easy goals. After these 2 Arsenal dropt to app. 40%. Friendly Character.
@Kaschte- Did you see much of the game in that fog/mist? Looked pretty bad on tv on the opposite side of the pitch to the camera.
@SteveHyland it was ok. Row 16.
@SteveHyland ?
It's always good to win while playing in 2nd gear. You look at the stats and it seems close but it was anything but, Basel were done after the 2nd goal. Their attacks only really came as a result of a mixture of our sloppiness in possession and sitting off the ball rather than playing possession for possession sake (like we should've). I'm not sure why Wenger kept Alexis and Mesut on after the 3rd goal. There was zero chance of us conceding 3, or even 2, to this mob yet he kept them on for 23 and 27 minutes longer, respectively. Ramsey was poor as was Iwobi, apart from his tap-in. All in all I'm happy but I really question Wenger's player management at times, it is not a coincidence we have the worst injury lists per year and he regularly. With Cazorla injured, we can ill afford one or both of Alexis and Oezil to be also and any opportunity to rest them should be taken. Bring on the draw where we will play either Bayern or Real Madrid. :-p
Nice to see Lucas out on the pitch making a contribution. I'd love to see our press when Lucas, Alexis and Welbeck are up top together.
The moment you see Arsenal given 2.20 odds for a win you know they have no freaking chance. Hahahaha. Absolutely no chance. They will get torn apart. I am waiting to see this. Hahaha. To see Basel devour Arsenal hungrily. I can't wait to see Basel win by HT and go ahead and win in Ft. I don't remember Arsenal getting odds greater than 2 as favorites. Just can't wait for Basel to squash, munch, tear and crumble this Cannons of London.
@njamimaranga Downvoting you not because of an incorrect prediction, but because this adds nothing to the discussion.
@njamimaranga How did that go for you?
@njamimaranga hahahahahahahahaha GOOD CALL
@njamimaranga So i hope you enjoyed Arsenal do the devouring :-)
@njamimaranga #epic fail comment Loser
@njamimaranga I feeld bad for the person who had to print your High School diploma
X2! But draw is preferred!
a lot will depend on match in Paris, but both to score here should be 99%, rest too hard to call
Arsenal win 3-1,4-1,5-1 should no problem
Could see Ox start
@Overmars Would love to see him start. I'm going for a brace for Chambo and Perez each, and Jenkinson to chip in with a crashing header at the back post. Why not?
@What4 Not bad, you picked it. Ox didnt get any minutes
@What4 well Perez has the brace! Perhaps it wasn't such a bad call :)
@What4 hahaha chamberlain could score and perez may get an assist but other than that....! I hope that was sarcasm btw!
Most Arsenal players are injured and the only players available will be rotated. But I think Arsenal will shield a slightly rotated side. I think This game should end as a draw. A 2-2. Basel just need a draw to get to Europa. And the fact Basel have a home ground. Unbeaten on home soil. Except that Psg 1-2 Loss in a goal that was scored in stoppage time from 30 yard strike by Munier they were outclassed to say the least. 30% ball possession is just poor. 1 shot on target 1 goal is just terrific. Anything could happen here. 2-2/1-2. But Ov25 is the only thing here. Even if Arsenal win 7-0 and Psg 1-0 Arsenal will still finish 2nd. Thier morale is low
The question is do arsenal want to win the completion or not. If they want to win the competitor them they realise they need to beat the best teams to do it . Logically the earlier you match the best the better, then you get knocked out sooner if you aren't good enough and can concentrate fully on the league. If I'm wenger I'm definitely resting Sanchez here, 99 percent chance psg will win
With Basel need at less one point.. we will have here an attacking match, with Basel making everthing to win the 3 points.. 1X nice bet here.
Good chance this game is a draw or a win for Basel. Will be interesting to see how much rotation Wenger brings to this match. Does he rest Ozil and Alexis?
@Overmars He played Ozil and Alexis who destroyed Basel's season
Who cares what happens here. Come first and we face Bayern. Come second and we face Barca. We all know this is true.
@What4- Well it for damn sure wont be Leverkusen or Monaco respectively. Real Madrid will draw against Dortmund and get Monaco and Barcelona will get Leverkusen, it has already been paid for.
@SteveHyland If Barca get Leverkusen, we get Dortmund. Anyway, Barca don't need help with the draw, when they have the ref to bail them out, so we could still get them.
Draw
The draw between PSG and Arsenal in the last round has already decided, that Arsenal will finish second. (Mathematically not, but virtually it has). The Gunners have anything else more important to do than fighting for that first place in Basel. I'm almost sure they will rest players, or key players will play with much less effort than they can. On the Other hand, Basel need a point to reach the Europa League, so 1X is more than a good choice for this match.
@futballstar- What you are saying makes perfect sense and there is a school of thought for resting all XI players who will start the game against Stoke but then imagine if somehow Ludogorets nick a point in the last second or PSG have somebody sent off in the opening 10 minutes and lose etc but we fail to win because we started a 2nd XI. It would cause a lot of embarrassment to Wenger and the club so I think he'll start his best team in the hop PSG slip-up, however unlikely that is to happen. It'll probably be 4-0 PSG but Wenger is conservative by nature. If the news at HT is that PSG are 3-0 up then Alexis and Oezil will be taken off I'm sure.
@SteveHyland I would rotate the starting XI slightly, but have the key players on bench incase they are needed based on news from Paris.
@SteveHyland I agree with you both. In the end, someone has to take the decision and live with the consequences.
