Germany
England
- Benedikt Howedes could start alongside Antonio Rudiger, with Mats Hummels potentially rested here.
- Timo Werner is looking to earn his first senior cap following his call up to the national side.
- Mesut Ozil, Mario Gomez, Sami Khedira and Julian Draxler are all sidelined through injury, which should pave the way for Lukas Podolski to make his 130th and final appearance for Germany.
- Manuel Neuer has pulled out of the squad altogether due to injury.
- Michael Keane could be handed his first England start in a three-man backline, while Jake Livermore is also set to start.
- Michail Antonio and Phil Jones are sidelined, while Raheem Sterling and Kyle Walker are doubts, though the latter should start.
- Jamie Vardy is expected to lead the line.
Poldi was not the most talented german footballer nor the most important one but he was certainly the most down to earth character in the team and was loved by almost everybody. Thats why he was still nominated for the national team despite not being that good anymore to play.
@neumi17 I don't know who it is. But there is definitely one poster here that downvotes everyone and has multiple accounts
@neumi17 Thx for the downvotes but one question.Did you really get 5 different accounts just for me ? What an honor, thanks again ... ;-)
@neumi17 This is because of Podolski is polish...
@bbj for ur kind info podolski and klose are ethnic german u moron. both of them from the former province of germany called silesia....Opole if ur polka...
@Ffaris- Silesia is largely Polish by geography and ethnicity. Podolski is Polish by heritage AND birth. Raised in Germany from the age of 2.
@SteveHyland for the last time... a piece of land from silesia and prussia(that originally belonged to Germany) were being awarded to poland, russia and lithuania as recent as ww2 all thanks victors of the wars. So guys like Podolski(from Silesia), Martin Max(from Silesia), Klose(from Silesia), Piotr Trochowski(former parts of Prussia)...all claimed German nationality because of their status of being ethnic Germans through a policy called Aussiedler...Which mean German nationaltiy is only granted to people of German origins..There other examples like Konstatins Rausch and Roman Neustader(both from Soviet Republic) also have claimed nationality from Aussiedler policy... Another things Silesia is NOT POLISH by ethnicity...The largest ethnic group there is Silesian who are neither POLISH nor GERMAN....But local SILESIANS have more cultural leanings to German culture despite being a Slavic group... Polak on the other hand are LARGEST MINORITY in SILESIA...Get your facts right...
@SteveHyland One last things just because a guy has polish or more appropriately a Slavic surname doesn't mean that guy is of Polish ancestry...e.g Podolski... There are lot of FULL BLOODED GERMANS with Slavic names...e.g Tim Borowski(Werder Bremen legend) and Charles Bukowski(a famous german american poet...)...Nuff said...
@SteveHyland Whatever his background his nationality is German I'm assuming, unless he is dual nationality. In which case he's chosen to play for Germany
@bbj If Podolski is polish, Bamidele Jermaine Alli is yoruba. Who the hell gives a f*** about descent anyway?
Thank you, Poldi! <3
england w 3 CB, 2 FB and 2 DM.. 7 "defensive" players. are they just playing not to loose and counter?
@edemex Against a very good team away from home the game plan is generally to keep it tight defensively, try to get a clean sheet and offer a threat on the counter. This isn't anything new. Are you new to watching football? England had over 50 percent possession and 11 shots which is quite surprising , the system clearly worked ok
Ter Stegen is very good on the ball. I feel like he's better on the ball than Neuer personally. Thoughts?
@Ideas Not surprising considering that he's Barca's #1. I think Germany should play less out of back. One little slip could cost them a goal...
@Ideas- Ter Stegen isn't even as good with his feet as Hart or Bravo. You tube is your friend. Ever see those type of errors from Neuer? It reminds me of when Adam Gilchrist first opened the batting for Australia in ODI cricket. Suddenly every team looked for a power-hitting wicket keeper who could open in ODIs completing disregarding the fact Adam was a once in a lifetime talent, a total freak that was and is so far above even 2nd place on the list that there may as well not be a list.
@SteveHyland I suggest you look at YouTube sunshine. Ter Stegen is brilliant even as an outfield player
@Ideas- Actually no he isn't at the top level, I've seen him make mistakes (with his feet) leading to goals for BMG and Barcelona but if you want to continue being ignorant, it's up to you. You clearly didn't bother watching any you tube videos that show him in anything but a good light. Once he has played as long as Hart and Bravo, he ill have made more mistakes, he has actually made more mistakes leading to goal with his feet than Hart in the last 2 years. Neuer hasn't.
@SteveHyland rubbish. Ter Stegen is miles better than hart and bravo
@Ideas About the same I think
LOL ENGLAND
England played as good as they can and Germany as poorly as possible but it was still enough to beat them. Thats the difference internationally...
@neumi17- I wouldn't go that far, on either end. Had we played as well as we could, we would've scored both of the great chances in the first half and also would've created more against a German team who were clearly not at the races. Also, Germany didn't play terribly in the 2nd half. they played 'ok' plus we dropped in intensity so it levelled out considerably relative to the first half. It was an extremely lucky Germany win, the stats unfortunately don't show it. Many of the "key passes" were only so because speculative efforts were taken from outside the area. The chip by Kroos over our defence was lovely and a more mobile striker may've scored but with the personnel on the pitch for both teams, the only way Germany were gonna score was via a 'worldy' and the only way England weren't going to was by missing. That is how it panned out, we paid for not capitalising when we were well on top.
@neumi17 Could easily have been 0-0. Quite rare to see a strike that good in an international.
don't know how Vardy stayed on for 70 minutes and Defoe didn't even get on
Thanks for the thumbs down of my team line up. Just an FYI England's line up was the same as mine apart from one change in outfield. That was because Southgate went with a back 3. I also picked a different keeper.
Ha,ha, like in the movies. Podolski really scores a fantastic goal and that will be probably the winner. England played well exept sucks in scoring.
@neumi17 you should have stuck with your germany prediction
I'm above the Gotfiler!
@tristankleyn Damn. @_WL_
so because germany score a wonder goal out the blue it means the team rating and player rating go down for england and up for germany
@_WL_ just completely ignore player ratings. I did that a long time ago. I only look at the advanced /individual stats and ignore rating
@Ideas any other good ideas?
@_WL_ Gotfiler sandwich.
10% Germany > 100% England ahahah
@Gotfiler Germany time wasting the final ten mins in a friendly, taking short corners and you claim they are at ten percent?
@Gotfiler Hello from underneath Gotfiler
What a goal!
Only England is playing, just not scoring...
@neumi17 England's system has confused Germany that's why. Stop making excuses.
We should be at least 2 up, possibly 3 with Keane's chance being so close to the goal. Germany wont be this crap in the 2nd half, I can't help feeling we will pay for the misses. Weigl's tackle on Dier was a bit naughty, lucky to not be seen by the ref. Vardy's fall over Ter Stegen was embarrassing. He already has a reputation as a diver. These instances wont help.
Really bad attempt by Alli ...directly on the body of ter Stegen
My guess is that Hart will let a weird goal in...
@neumi17 hopefully it doesnt happen but thats only way germ lead
England very agressive, Germany still asleep
ive never seen germans late to anything 7.45 kick off ffs cmon
Based on history and powers bestowed to me by donald trump to predict this match and make your forecasts great again ENG 1-0
@hellyeah Germany scores no goals ??? You got to be kidding me ( and others) ... :-0
@neumi17 no shots on target. therefore so far so good
OFFICIAL GERMANY (4-2-3-1 guess): Ter Stegen, Kimmich, Ruediger, Hummels, Hector, Kroos, Weigl, Brandt, Werner, Sane, Podolski.
@SteveHyland- Poldi is captain as was announced a while ago. I'm guessing this is how Germany will line up, corrections are welcome. The back 6 are relatively sorted. Brandt RW, Sane on his favourite LW and Werner central makes the most sense. Timo will then be able to drift ahead of Podolski and find himself the furthest forward. I can't see Lukas playing in the 10 personally.
@SteveHyland Me neither
OFFICIAL ENGLAND (3-4-3): Hart, Keane, Smalling, Cahill (c), Walker, Livermore, Dier, Bertrand, Lallana, Vardy, Dele.
Schürrle, Podolski, Müller, Höwedes, Hector.... worst team axis possible ;-) Nobody can can control or stopp the ball well, not to mention passing. But hey, I looking forward to see Kimmich, Sané, Kroos and Werner maybe...
Same fixture last year went 3-2 to England, thinking the same tonight. BTTS Eng win @ 7/1 worth a 5er imo
where is Kane
@MessiGOAT Injured
Podolski i a LEGEND.
Podolski's last match. Germany squad will make sure to secure a win here. 2-1
England haven't lost away to Germany since 1987
@etxebe Sounds weird but is true. However, Didi Haman ( former City and Liverpool player) said today that not a single english player would make it into the starting 11 of Germany. With the likes of Schürrle and Podolski I doubt that a bit but think those defeats were just coincidents. Also Germany really sucked in the late 90 s and early 2000...
Wish we would try 343. Most of our players use this formation and it would get the best out of Kane, Ali and Sterling, Lallana, Rose and Walker. My best 11 when all fit: Hart Dier Cahill Stones Walker Hendo Lallana Rose Sterling Kane Ali
Özil, Draxler and Gomez all out and Podolski and Schürrle instead? Ok, I change my tipp to 2-1 England...
@neumi17 haha you just changed because of the dislikes. wahaaha
@hellyeah? I changed because the good players are all out and the crappy ones probably get in. Good enough reason, no?
who dares wins 0-3
Germany will win this, Podolski deserves it
@Vellicahearst Podolski should have retired 5 years ago. He scored 95% of all his goals in his first 80 caps for Germany. In last 6 -7 years or 50 caps he basically contributed zero for the team, since much better players than him had come up. In the last 5 years he was only called up because he was such a good sport and important for the general good mood and climate within the team.
In my humble opinion as a mere outsider, I would start Harry Kane as the main striker for England. I don't know about his health or anything, but he seems a very promising player for the nation. Germany would not have the luxury of leaving a talented striker like that on the side. And since chemistry matters for international competitions, it seems to make sense for him to play with Alli in the midfield. That being said, I like the choices for the German lineup, in the absence of a natural and experienced striker like Gomez. Sane has been rather impressive with City this season, but I would like to see how he performs under pressure.
@antonsmith welcome back man...it been while... it was euro 2016 right...woah didn't know it was that long......so in short welcome back.and..Good analysis. by the way.. it not that much of big deal if you didn't know about Harry Kane injury....But yeah major update instead of Gomez(who is injured by the way) we are gonna see Prinz Poldi leading the line...and scoring the winning goal for Die Mannschaft...
@Ffaris Thanks for your words. It's nice to hear from you. I have too much work these days, unfortunately; I didn't know he was injured. So your prediction was correct! Podolski did score the winning goal.
@antonsmith ur welcome...Don't worry...it's not the end of the world if you didn't know about kane's injury lot of ppl even whoscored.com don't....Podolski scoring the winning goal...Yeah I did make that prediction....but it didn't had any solid reasoning behind it...it was more like my wishful thinking...I acutally emotional connection with this podolski guy...I wanted him to get a flying send off...
@antonsmith He is England's best striker, but he reinjured his ankle, which kept him out for several weeks.
I would start Forster & Smalling ahead of Heaton & Keane. The latter 2 are in better form, but playing against Germany at one of the toughest grounds in Europe can knock you out of form. Forster has proven to be great against top teams in pressured atmospheres and Smalling has tonnes of champions league experience at venues akin to the Westfalenstadion. I also dislike putting Dier back in DCM. He is somebody who can adapt to a position change after a few games of settling-in but is poor in the meantime. Germany are a midfield-dominance based team, I think Alli (who drops deep for Spurs anyway) at LCM in a 4-3-3 makes more sense, especially given his pressing skills. I would go: Forster, Clyne, Smalling, Cahill (c), Bertrand, Lallana, Livermore, Alli, Ward-Prowse, Vardy, Sterling providing Raheem is fit. If he isn't then Barkley. Ross' ball retention has increased dramatically this season, he isn't scared to take a man on and creates chances. Switching to LW for a dribbler is no biggie.
@SteveHyland- Ward-Prowse at RW rather than RCM due to Lallana's good form this season within a 4-3-3 and W-P's exceptional crossing/set play ability. Lallana is also a better presser than W-P and one of those players who wins the ball back without tackling, as contradictory as that sounds.
Heaton, Walker, Keane, Cahill, Bertrand, Livermore, Dier, Lallana, Alli, Vardy, Ward-Prowse. 4-3-3. Livermore as the anchor mid, Dier will have bite wherever he plays, he plays as a central mid. That's my team from the squad. Focus on defend and quick counter with Vardy. Set pieces of Ward Prowse brings an extra demnsion plus his work rate. Alli a threat in the air playing inside left as he's a target for Ward Prowse set up like This (similar to Eriksen on the right crossing to Alli on the left for Spurs in 3421. I pick players by substance, not by name. Opinions aside Heaton is clearly the best keeper in the squad and it would be an injustice if he didn't start. Stones can't defend, no chance I'm picking him.
@Ideas quick counter in general, I obviously don't mean just punt it at vardy. England need to play tight defensively with fast counter attacking football and stop trying to play like Barcelona (or Spain or Germany). They need to play what suits them best and stop trying to mimic what suits other teams best
trapp should get the nod, unlike Leno he is a monster when it comes to catching crosses and is good with feet too. There is no need for players from bayern, borussia and shcalke 04 to play in friendlies. these guys need maximum rest so that they could get better uefa co-efficent for bundesliga. Lucky for england they are using rose or walker. they are more of wing back than lb or rb respectively. if they would have played it would have given german attacker plenty of space to exploit. Bertrand and Clyne are decent lb and rb, so that leaving behind gap problem is covered. Germany is gonna win. Even though Deutchland doesn't give much thought about england friendly (unless it involves argentina, netherland and to limited extent brazil-only just limited), this time they are serious in this friendly as they intend to give flying send off PRINZ POLDI. OUR GOLDEN BOY during Klinsmann era.
England need to play a proper left winger. Not rashford
@Ideas if we use 343 we can have rose as left wing back and ali left of the front three (both play there for spurs and playing great)
Expect rat face Vardy do dive so he can get opposition player sent off!
England to win
Germany always loses against England when it doesn't matter because the match is a bigger thing for England than for Germany. But this time I think die Mannschaft is focused a bit more and also has called up good players. My guess is 2-1 Germany...
@neumi17- Since the reunification of Germany, the record is Germany wins 3 - England wins 2 in the World Cup or Euros (including qualifiers). It has alternated between a Germany win and an England win and Germany won last so if we meet in 2018, you know the result. ;-) Ha
@SteveHyland I need to see the two line ups before predicting this. England have the ingredients to get a result if Southgate has the guts to pick a team similar to mine. It provides aerial threat, pace threat, set piece threat. If England want all dimensions and possibilities to score then they must pick Alli, Vardy and Ward Prowse
@SteveHyland reunification only occured during 90's pretty the reunification is much younger than you were born. Die Mannschaft existed even b4 90s so plz stats on that regard. It would def paint a different pciture of what you are trying to show.
@Ffaris- The problem when including West Germany v 'x' stats along with those of Germany post-91, when the football side of reunification took part, is that those in eastern Germany (now) may not want to be included with the 'West'. It's far easier to use stats for "Germany" and use the West/East German fixtures as a separate entry, to avoid offence. Those in England DO consider West Germany to be 'Germany' (as do FIFA) and include them within the Germany stats (world cup '66, '90 etc), which in important games are: GERMANY 6 - DRAWS 2 - ENGLAND 3; but you have to be careful when lumping pre-reunification stats in, especially when you consider Matthias Sammer and Ulf Kirsten (the 2 most well-known of the 8 players who played for East Germany and unified Germany) would almost certainly NOT want West Germany's stats to be included along with unified Germany even if they wouldn't publicly say so.
@SteveHyland looks someone really hate us. that is why, both of us got 2 downvotes and same for neumi17 too...ROFL
@Ffaris- Ha, probably communists hating the reunited Germany. :-p
sie germans 2-0
I can see gomez getting a headed goal since stones and clyne are weak in aerial duels so gomez to score with a header is likely. Nuff said
England has too many attacking players in their team and not enough players that can win the ball. Why not pick Leicester's Drinkwater? Is Henderson injured? Also, I don't see them using Livermore or Ward-prowse. I would like to see them try a back 3 with Cahill, Stones, and Smalling. Their two holding midfielders can be Dier and Livermore. The front three can be Sterling, Vardy, and Alli. Because most of these players have played in a back 3 formation for their club, the transition to this formation probably won't be too difficult.
@mkunited Livermore and Ward Prowse should both start against a possession team like Germany. Livermore is at his best anchoring the midfield against a side like this. Ward Prowse has shown he's more of a danger against the better sides (EFL cup final vs Man U and the other day vs spurs). He has terrific work rate, crossing and set pieces. Football is a team game. When I pick a side against a top possession team I pick a unit that first and foremost is solid defensively and a nightmare to break down, terrific work rate, Bite in midfield, is a threat on the counter with pace and with set pieces. Alli provides an extra dimension of an aerial threat in open play . This result and performance could make or break England's morale in the long run. He needs to pick a side that can frustrate Germany and the best keeper which is quite clearly heaton
Germany to get a 2-0 win. Should be a fun match to watch
What a match !
