- Luis Enrique may revert to the same team that started their historical win over Paris Saint-Germain in the last round as Barcelona look for another miracle here.
- The Barcelona manager was reportedly unhappy with Mascherano's performance in the first leg and he could make way here, although he is an injury doubt anyway.
- Neymar, Ivan Rakitic and Gerard Pique will incur a suspension in European competition if they are booked here.
- Paulo Dybala sprained his ankle at the weekend but will reportedly be fine to start against Barcelona on Wednesday.
- No major changes are expected from the side that beat Barcelona 3-0 in the first leg as Max Allegri's side look to manage their advantage.
- Juan Cuadrado is one booking away from suspension in UEFA competition.
Juveeeeeeeee!
Messi is an incredible player, the best I've ever seen (or at least the 2009-12 and 2015 versions was) but I feel like he bottled it in this game. Everything he did looked tentative, almost scared. It was the same earlier in the season against RM and I hope he proves me wrong but I expect him to do the same on Sunday. As for Suarez, he was completely shut down. Neymar went on some great dribbles, yes, but the end result was almost always to give away possession and his yellow card again showed he has a lot of growing up to do.
@jonejo34 His yellow card proved that sometimes, for him, friendship and emotions connected to it, take over. It's debatable what is more important. And as for losing possesion....when a player goes through 4 or 5 defenders, like he did, and doesn't have anyone to help him, he will always lose the ball.
@Nicky77 Decision making and judgement are the areas in which he is lacking. The judgement of when and where to dribble or pass and the judgement/self control to put emotions in check on those occasions where nothing positive can possibly come out of his actions (e.g. sarcastically clapping the referee after a deserved red card). Hopefully he learns these things in time, because his talent is unbelievable.
@jonejo34 Many clap sarcastically and argue when the referees are making mistakes which happens to be quite often. He was unlucky. As for his decision making...are ya kidding? Why Messi and Luis keep getting perfect passes from him for scoring? Bceause he is making good decisions and knows when and where to pass. His number of assists each season proves that. Seriously, he is not getting such high ratings for nothing.
@Nicky77 the fact that other players do something doesn't justify giving the ref and authorities an excuse to slap a ban on you. Many players wave imaginary yellow cards but that doesn't make it any less annoying that even Messi has now started doing it. On Neymar, we'll have to beg to differ on his decision making. You can see frustration from others in the team at the moment due to his refusal to move the ball on quicky. Too often it is a case of head down and dribble first regardless of options, something that I didn't think was so much of a problem at the start of the season when, as you point out, he racked up a lot of assists. If you can't see this then I think you are willfully ignoring his drawbacks because of your admiration for him.
@jonejo34 Sad but true. Hope he proves us wrong soon.
@groovy Not sure what you mean. Personally, I have the utmost respect for him as a player and as a human being, who is ready to risk a lot for someone he cares about and admires.
Neymar must not cry cos his side didnt even deserve to reach the quarter finals. he just made his inevitable pain WORSE
@Peter_Griffin Too bad you can't understand emotions that are on the field. Mascherano said something about people like you: it's easy to watch and judge and from your own couch.
Feel for Neymar in tears at the end. He was also one of the few Barca players not going down appealing after every single tackle. He worked hard and had to take on 4 or 5 players by himself at times. Nevertheless, expect major changes at Barcelona in the summer. Not just the manager, who is IMO not a great manager but a bit of a scapegoat here. The front three will be relatively rested after the summer. Wouldn't be surprised if they push for the CL next year but they do need 2 overhaul the midfield.
@dSquib Neymar must not cry cos his side didnt even deserve to reach the quarter finals. he just made his inevitable pain WORSE
I think it highlights the problem with the rating system that Cuadrado was the player that caused the most trouble for either defence in this game and he gets 6.8. Neymar gets 9.3. Cuadrado was more dangerous than Neymar all game and Juventus' main attacking outlet, he must have covered more ground than any player on the pitch. These dribbles, the definition of them, the reward of them are ruining the rating system. Giminez last night is also the only defensive player I've seen break the rating system with a 10 without a goal or assist. His defensive contribution was enormous. It needs to be easier for defenders or defensive players to get a high rating I think.
@Yes Neymar was more dangerous than Cuadrado considering Cuadrado had SO much more room. IMO Cuadrado could have shown more incisiveness. Defensively he was good but even in a defensive shape a winger will be judged largely on attacking stats.
@dSquib Not really. Cuadrado's athleticism, stamina, pace, work rate etc was a big reason for his threat on the break.
@Yes- The problem is good defending includes: closing down avenues, positioning, marshalling others around them, snuffing out danger without actually committing yourself etc- none of which can be counted. I agree dribbles need to be downgraded in importance because it is impossible to distinguish between a useful dribble and a useless one unless a person is using opinion (which is the polar opposite of why this site exists) but so much of what we as fans constitute great defending simply is not quantifiable in ANY ratings system, unfortunately.
We had the most dramatic comeback ever. I think that was enough for this season. we will be champions next year :)
@maxifoot No, you won't.
We will try again next season, barca till i die
According to the reports, Barca mistakenly sent the referees bribe to a wrong account number. Sorry for any inconvenience caused
@LapuIga so funny, dumb
@Taha25 I just try to entertain myself after this miserable knocked out. Congratulations juve fan but dont call me dumb :)
Messi 1 dribble, 3 key passes, 7 shots, missed sitters and gets a 7? whoscored are a disgrace, Neymar and Busi were the only Barca players that were trying. Messi should have got a 5 and Suarez shouldn't even be rated, he was a zero.
@realnews It's only based on stats the rating. It's an algorithm. They don't choose the ratings, they just occur. Messi deserved 6 at best. 5/10 is probably better. No Barcelona player was worth more than 6/10 in a match ratings report, but this is based on stats. The algorithm gives too much reward for dribbles as we can see by Neymar's rating and not enough value for key defensive actions.
@realnews Hmm
Messi missed two big chances.
@Senior Yes, but Ronaldo missed big chances last night too before his opening goal for example. Even the best players miss chances. The second chance was very difficult in the grand scheme of things. Above waist height on his weak foot, he would have been tired too that stage of the game and would have felt under pressure to get the shot off quickly. On the first chance I usually expect him to score unless it's blocked, but he is not a robot.
@Yes I was talking about Barca not Real Madrid. I just told the true that Barca players tried so hard to create chances but Messi wasted. Yes Messi is not robot but why Barca has to build up up around him in every game? Messi always has more chances to shot than Suarez and Neymar have. This games Messi shot 7 ( 2 clear chances) meanwhile Neymar shot 3, Suarez shot 4 and no clear chance
@Senior I brought Ronaldo up because he scores a lot of goals too.
Neymar had almost the same number of successful tackles as Giorgio Chiellini and Bonucci, Had the most key passes, most dribbles, so he was clearly man of the match, but I think 9.3 is high a bit
La Juve, vinciamo sempre noi! Forza Vecchia Signora mia. Te Amo Per Sempre, Bianconeri! Juve per sempre sarà!!!
I Think there are some mouth-watering ties to be had in the next round. I think a free-scoring Monaco versus a defensive and solid Juve should be fun. I would hate for it to be Real vs Atletico in the finals again for the 3rd time in 4 years. Juve is looking like a true contender, I think Madrid always find a way to score though, so should we face Juve at any point, I am still backing Madrid to win.
For me, this was Barcelona's best performance collectively however MSN weren't at their best. Barcelona played an unacceptable game in the first leg and they paid for it. For me, Juventus have all the ingredients to win the UCL title this season and they are the first contender to win it.
@CirdomAkul Juventus were really bad at counter-attacking in this game. If they can combine the attacking from the 1st leg, and the defending from this game, they could win the CL.
@CirdomAkul MS weren't at their best. N was.
@Nicky77 I didn't see Neymar at his best. He dribbled countless times but he wasn't at his best for me.
@CirdomAkul What do dribbles lead to? Chances for Messi tor Messi to score. The fact that he didn't, is a different story.
Italian savvy does it again. Imagine if their national team were this shrewd, they'd win 4 world cups or something. I'd like to see Juventus play Real Madrid and see how the all-out attack of Monaco will fare against Atletico.
@SteveHyland Italy is very competitive in internationals and Champions League and always reaches far in the competitions. Winning an international competition or Champions league is very difficult.
@Yes- Of course. My point being Italy have won 4 world cups by being the smartest team in the competition irrespective of whether or not they were actually the 'best'. It could be the same for Juventus in this season's CL.
@SteveHyland I think so. Not really sure why you've been rated down 4 times.
MSN Major Soccer News barca are to sack manager
@RemyLebeu Sorry to say but Luis Enrique declared to leave Barca more than a few weeks ago. He's not going to be a manager next season for sure
This is what happens when Barcelona face a good defense. PS.: At home
@DonKing Yes and Juventus didn't even come to park the bus. They tried to score the away goal all game and Cuadrado and Dybala in particular looked very disappointed not to when subbed off.
Chiellini and Bonucci are unreal. Incredible display. Best two CB's in the world for sure.
@Yes Barzagli is actually better than Bonucci (I've been watching both of them for 6 or 7 years) But Barzagli might not have the stamina left. Still, Barzagli is easily better than Bonucci defensively. Bonucci is still right up there though!
@Calcio_Guy Overall Bonucci is better right now in my view.
Juve (gandalf) says to barca (balrog) You shall not pass back to the shadows creatures of the dark
@RemyLebeu lame
@pasopati go lame yourself BuB
Italian teams are no joke tactically, they just neutralized the entire MSN. Just shooting blanks the whole game.
@ImADope Messi should have scored in this game. But Higuain or Cuadrado should also have scored. 1-1 would probably have been a better reflection of the game as a whole, but a draw in this game is fair.
@Yes Mascherano should have scored, Roberto was close, Messi was close twice as well. I don't really see 1:1 a fair score neither 0:0
@Inmate 0-0 was fair, it was the real score in the match and officials didn't influence the scoreline in any way. Neither team took their chances. If you feel Barcelona was wasteful then not really. Mascherano didn't reach the ball, Roberto was shooting on his left foot and it was going further wide..not a good chance at all for a player like Roberto on left foot. Messi had one big chance first half, but second half chance very difficult. I expect usually Messi scores once and that's it for Barcelona. Juventus was dangerous all match on the break and could have got 2-3 goals if ruthless. 1-1 a good reflection of the game is generous to Barcelona, but 0-0 was fair because it was the actual scoreline.
Somehow I don't see goals in this game. Barcelona 0 - 0 Juventus is my prediction. Lol
@Red_Card now just time travel and write that in the first comment and everyone be like whaaaatttt!!!!
@RemyLebeu :Ha ha. I'm working on the time machine. I also predict exactly 3 thumbs down initially but when the results come to fruition a few likes might be in order.
This is what psg wish they played like in 2 leg at nou camp,masterclass in defending if you want to win anything first thing a good team need is a solid defence and keeper.
Messi 7.0? For what? Flopping hard and getting dispossessed constantly?
@mourasaint Messi should have been on 6 at best, but this is based on stats and not subjective. Just look at Neymar's obscene and over the top rating...pointless dribbles are valued too highly. It is offensive to the game of football that Neymar gets a comfortably higher rating than Chiellini and Bonucci
I would like to see atletico madrid vs juve in next round even though it be be a goalless match 2 immovable solid defence forces in the world of football who would break first.
@RemyLebeu - Real Madrid - Juve and Monaco - Atlético would be much more fun. When great defenses meet, it's almost always boring, but RM and Monaco would force them to play and play well.
@RemyLebeu Juventus have more fire power upfront.
@RemyLebeu Would be such a fun match to watch and dissect but an eye sore of the regular public.
No penalties no win, no red cards no trophy
What happens when an unstoppable force (barca) meets the immovable object Juve) the immovable force juve wins
@RemyLebeu that is paradox you moron
Barcelona are an embarrassment. Suarez dives and then Umtiti acts like he's been shot when almost zero contact. A five year old child wouldn't act like Umtiti from this contact.
No referee help for barcelona, no goals
@DoubleV This is getting sooooooooooooooo boring ! Don`t you feel stupid for all those repetitions ?
Messi dropping too deep.
@ImADope Let's not forget Pique's positioning either. He's often playing centre forward.
@ImADope Alcacer is on the pitch too now. He has to drop deep with L.Suarez, Neymar and Alcacer all playing. Messi's bigger problem is his missed chances.
@Yes Messi must be scored two at least
@Yes Yeah I get that, I just think he'd be more dangerous outwide.
@ImADope If he stayed out wide and they forced him the ball constantly then probably. But in CL this season if he stays out wide they often don't pass to Messi, so he has to drop and look for the ball.
Cuadrado is a big difference in this game. A great outlet for Juventus and counter attack threat. He has the energy to get back into position when Juventus set up in defensive shape too. Very good player, just needs to work on his final end product.
Neymar 8.3 for dribbling into blind alleys. We're watching the game and that's an absolute joke.
This Juventus team would possibly be stronger with Asamoah and Sandro both on the left hand side, with Mandzukic on the bench. In a game like this it would be easier to counter attack with a left footed player on the left side and even more solidarity without possession.
Good bye Barcelona, maybe next year...
The real game start´s now :)
Messi could have broken his neck in that incident. I don't understand why Barcelona's players have to put pressure on referees in every game.
@CirdomAkul I agree, but it was just very unfortunate. Not like the challenge was intended to have that result in any way. I think Barcelona have to consider taking Messi off personally, that looked really nasty and he will have a badly damaged eye socket and most likely concussion. If he gets hit in the face with the ball, or a similar incident occurs again...accidental collision etc he will be in serious trouble...either his eye socket or serious concussion and head injury. If I'm Barcelona's medical team then I strongly advise the manager to substitute Messi off now for his safety.
The referee is doing very well so far. But he needs to clamp down on the constant dissent by Barcelona. Neymar and Iniesta could be be off the pitch if they were booked like they should have been for dissent. Barcelona not putting the ball out when Mandzukic was down (and when Kheidira was down earlier in the match) and then not returning the ball when Juventus put the ball out for Mandzukic's injury is also very poor sportsmanship. Not that I'm surprised considering it's Barcelona we are talking about here. Higuain has been wasteful. Juventus should have scored a goal by now. Barcelona's attitude as a team and their crowd is unacceptable and very poor behaviour. This referee is doing a good job and the players and crowd are all over him.
Barca should have signed Pjanic when they had the chance, that guy is insane.
@ImADope Yes he's good, but Juventus just have no weak links as a team. A much more complete team than Barcelona.
@Yes I feel like they need a bit more fire power on the left hand side, Sandro is great but maybe they should bring Kingsley Coman back.
barca need 2 goals in the first half or juve to get a defender red carded to have a realistic chance of turning this tie.
uefantus
@MessiGOAT Based on what kid? You seem salty. 135 minutes (not including added time at the end of the three halves) and counting that you haven't scored against Juventus. You know the aim of football is to stick the ball in the back of the net right?
@MessiGOAT Old Uefatonians. Heart of Miduefalothian. Crewe Uefaxandria. Uefahampton Wanderers.
Juventus win
what if...just what if this was Barcelona's plan...act formless and suddenly turn games around...maybe messi was behind it...comeback once might be a coincidence...but twice?? he'll surely get the ballon d'or
@DeanO its all part of the plan you see nobody panics when things go according to plan and barca win everytime by 3 or 4 goals, but if tomorrow you see neymar will get a red card and barca will lose 3 nil and make a miracouls comeback then everyone loses their mind.
barca win this match but juve will qualify and messi and higuain to score.
Looking at the comments below, @La_Doudecima shouldn't be allowed to poison the comments section with that disgusting rubbish.
I want that Barca win for real
Someone will see red. Most likely from Juve. In the second half. Then barca will win game but not the tie. 2-1 for barca.
La_doudecima, I'm sorry but you make the comment section so unenjoyable. Every time you spam and spread mindless hate towards barca it makes me disengage. Please, just be apart of conversations. I understand we come from different parts of the world and have different conversational types, but for the sake of community please just tone it down a little.
@Password Why are you sorry?
@Password Correct, but the constant and relentless down voting of sensible comments on this site is also poisonous and childish. If you don't agree with a comment then reply, rather than acting a baby and down rating.
@Password I agree, I wish these Barca and Real Madrid fans would stop have their stupid arguments on every single comments section, that crap just irritates most people.
juve will go on because they are going to score in this game. and barcelona cant pull of the 5 goals they would need. yes, they did do this against PSG but the PSG defense is Meunier Marquinhos Kimpembe Kurzawa for that game. and juve is Alves Bonucci Chiellini Alex Sandro. the juventus defense destroys PSG's so there will be no comeback here.
@cforcrime thumbs up "spanish clubs are always candidate to win CL or reach finals"
hahhahhahaha i see miracle
@SomalianPirates no, this is not miracle - this is paid ref
Barca sucks! Thumbs down if u agree :D
Barcelona will get help from uefalona again. But i trust Juve`s own strenght! We are warriors we live as vikings and fight till death! 2-2..
Barcelona win @ 5 - 1 Messi to score
Barcelona win @ 5 - 1
Its Time! ..... 1-2.
it seems that uefa wants a classico in the final according to yesterday's match. So barcelona to pass by anyway.
I think Barcelona is going to win here, I just remember what they did with PSG after losing 0-4 they won 6-1 and I think some of that might repeat here!
0-3 barcelona cant score goals. we watch juve-monaco final i think
Sorry, but we are done :(
Barca will win, that's for sure...but it will be not enough to go in the semifinal (2-0 or 2-1)
2-0 or 3-1 Barcelona
Barcelona's chance is only on one man - Messi. If a 200% effort from him and a little bit of luck from the referee, they may gone through the stage. But I doubt that this will happen again after beaten PSG controversially. Barcelona 3:1 Juventus would be considerable.
0-0
@yervand.beglaryan oh boi
@yervand.beglaryan I think of all the scores to happen, this is the least likely one.
@neumi17 So what you will say now?
@neumi17 Less likely than 15-15? I kid, I kid.
Barcelona 3-1 Juventus
Let me tell you the tactics here. It won't be defensive or possessive football. It will be all attack for Barcelona and balanced attack for Juventus.. Juventus can't afford to go defensive and do another PSG mistake or trying to protect the lead by defensive strategy. Although I see Juventus finding the net firstime,they will succumb to the high tempo, high pressure, fast football at a nearly 100,000 parked Nou Camp and loose something around 3-2/4-2. Barcelona will undoubtedly win but a high scoring of 5+ goals is expected.
I don't trust this Bracelona defence against any attack. With Higuain, Dybala, Mandzukic, even Alves is still a good attacking player, I can't see Barca keeping a clean sheet. Are they going to score 5? Not a chance.
1-1. Juve!
juve should win. uefalona go away
boring titi taka will lose here, agree:)
@koziol.mutant tiki taka wouldve won poop wipe.. Enrique will lose
It will all be about the defence. Can Barcelona score 3 goals vs Juve? Yes, if they take their chances. Will they concede? Almost surely, yes. I don't think Enrique should rush anything. Let's just play and maximize the efficiency. Nothing is impossible, but I give Barca about 15-20% chance if they play with the right attitude.
Rmadrid fan come on stop vote Higuain as motm, i swear i vote CR vs munich. Lets support each other. ElClasico final is coming
Barcelona 2-1
Juve will probably qualify but I don't believe it's gonna be 1-2 , very unlikely prediction
Sure.. juve will beat barca in camp nou when they are already lead with 3 goals... omg guys pls .. barca win with minimum 2 goals difference
Provided that no penalties awarded to Barcelona,Juventus will be able to beat them. A porous defence against a solid one. Barca 1-3 Juve
Frankly Barca have got no chance of turning this one around . better luck next time 2-2
4-2 juventus
Whoscored prediction is totally biased
@LapuIga I always say Whoscored predictions are the best.Juventus is a very strong team,Barca is a very porous team.It should be Barca 1-4 Juventus,and not 1-2 Juventus
@LapuIga That's true.They always favour Barcelona and Real Madrid teams.Even try checking their statistics,they always favour Real and Barca players...
Barca 1- 4 Juve
Whoscored are u kidding me? U predict 1-2 for juve? LOL very bad prediction.. u will see after the match, barca win.
Barca win!
Buffon and Chiellini gonna keep safe Juve, this match ends 1-1
Predicting a 2-1 win for Barca and Juve's progression to the semis. Forza JuVE!!!
If Juventus sits back, they would complicate the tie for themselves. MSN can break any defense. The key is to disconnect the links to MSN as much as possible. I can't imagine Barcelona not conceding given their conditions.
Forza Juve!!! Balabalabala, Dybala!! Est score 2-2
FORZA JUVE
Wenger out!
the tie is over kids deal with it
Why so many people voted for higuain? dybala plays better all the season
Who believe in this comeback? Barca 3-0 Juve
@LapuIga Not really. Barca will have to come out attacking from the beginning, which should give Juve plenty of chances on the counter. It's likely Juve will score at least one. If I was a betting man I would go for btts.
msn will scoree
The tie is still open
As a Barca-fan I believed in a comeback after the 0-4 defeat in Paris. I wrote about my naive believe in this forum, got my ass kicked by many, but it came true. Do I believe in a comeback here? Not really - because Juve is a far more clever opponent than PSG. But Juve might go into this game in a traditional italian way and just stand back to defence their lead, and that's my little tiny hope. Because this Barca-team has a very weak defence (that can't play the ball out of defencezone when under pressure), a midfield lacking offensive skills (and the skills of passing the ball quickly). But Barca still has an attacking three, who all must deliver at their best to make a comeback. Three things must come true: 1. MSN must be at their best. 2. Goddess of Luck must smile at Barca. 3. Buffon should take a day off. He's almost 40, spring is coming, things to do in the garden with wife and kids. He should really take a day off and enjoy his familylife, he deserves it. :-)
@jesper Juve will win again, 2-1 this time.
@DelJuve The greatest thing about this sport is that you can never be confident (like you seem to be), you can only hope for the best for your favourite team. But on the pitch anything can happen
@jesper I am more than confident. I am positive we are making it through. We are not PSG. We have a winner mentality, and the best defense in the world. And Allegri is a tactical genius. Last season we went out earlier because of pure bad luck. Morata goal was disallowed when it should have never been, which killed the game and morale of the team. It had a psychological impact on the team as shown in the extra time, as the body wanted to do one thing, but the mind wanted something else lol Barcelona might get a win here, but that will just not be enough. Just hope there will be no controversial decisions from the referee, or I will lose complete interest in the sport once and for all. Hope we see a fair and good match. Good luck to both team.
@DelJuve Bad luck, a goal disallowed and killing game and morale? Psychological impact? Are you a healer reading the stars or something? This is football, it happens in every game - every week. Any game happens in realtime on the pitch, as it heppens - and anything can happen on that pitch
@DelJuve Sure they can, if my three come-true things don't come true. And to be true: I don't really believe in number three (it was kind of a joke): Buffon won't take a day off. Actually I think he will keep his clean sheet. But maybe that the knock the Barca-bosses need to suffer to understand that somethings (many things) needs to be changed in this club
@jesper Well, not much humour in here ... Smiles and laughes must wait till after the match. We'll just have to wait and se who smiles and laughs till then
@jesper good game :) maybe next time
Barca will win 4 0 (remember this moment)YES WE CAN.road to Cardiff
@A.r.m.e.n lol
Barca will win 4 0 (remember this moment) I believe.YES WE CAN.road to Cardiff
@A.r.m.e.n ok
Only positive FCB can take from away fixture was that they created more chances than Juve but couldn't convert them into goals. But I doubt that with tough fixtures coming up, hosting Real Sociedad, Juve and then visiting Bernabeau. I feel Barca is going to slip up in Liga and also a possibility of FCB getting knocked out of UCL. Unless Juventus defence goes bollocks like they trembled last year at Allianz Arena.
@rmd007 Guess you se it right: Barca is slipping the whole season.
@rmd007 possibility? lol
Putting this here for all the Uefalona comments that are bound to be posted: Juventus was actually caught match fixing. They were actually guilty of what people keep accusing Barcelona of doing. And Real Madrid was caught, too, but the charges were dropped. So, there's some info for you. Enjoy your petty hatred. Hope it keeps you warm at night. Doubt it does.
@VelIicahearst Juventus were never caught match fixing. Get your facts right.
@VelIicahearst All this hatred you foresee is in your own heart. You foresee yourself and nothing apart of that
@jesper Well, since that's my impostor account of course he full of hatred
@Vellicahearst Sorry, didn't mean to harm you. I'm not your "imposter account" - who ever that might be. I'm just a footballfan :-)
@jesper Not you bro :) i meant that Vellica who steal my account name is the imposter
FCB 2 1 Juve
La Juve, vinciamo sempre noi! Forza Vecchia Signora mia. Te Amo Per Sempre, Bianconeri! Juve per sempre sarà!!!
