Blatant penalty on Lingard, could've been worse for Ajax although Mkhitaryan should've been booked much earlier which in turn would've allowed Veltman to attack him in the knowledge Henrikh wouldn't be able to mistime a challenge. Anyways, Utd deserved to win. Ajax's naivety played into Utd hands at times, which is what you get with a young team, but if they can keep their core, maybe next season they can win the Eredivisie.
Well, your predictions were wrong. Considering this is a stats site, I guess it's somewhat understandable that Ajax were picked to win, but psychology and mentality of the two teams were so important this game. One team is young and inexperienced. The other team is more experienced and was DESPERATE to win the game. Not only did United have to go all in for this game, they played for Manchester.
TBF United earned it, but it was still depressingly dull and cowardly football to watch. Nothing honorable about parking the bus against the youngest team in Europe as the richest team in the world by more than 150M.

It was masterclass defending from United and showed how Mourinho is a brilliant tactician. If you've followed man united this season, you know they have really struggled with their offense. Whenever they took an attacking approach, they drew most of their games. Zlatan had to carry United's scoring load on his own. Who was missing from this game in Sweden? United's approach was practical and smart. To win this game, they had to take this approach. Do you want your favorite team to lose playing "attractive" soccer or win? I personally love watching organized defending and tactics. Btw, United only park the bus in the last 15 ish minutes of the game. They pressed and played a semi-high line at times.

When Jose mourinho and his boys targeted the Europa league and gave their full commitment towards it , it was not a good sign for any opposition in the final or semi final . You can't beat experience, you can't beat class , this club is one of the most successful clubs in world football and they deserve to be in the CL, hopefully with few good signings , we will win the title next season. @MrNemobody I'm not watching the match, stuck at the office desk :( but having the short stick of possession doesn't mean you're playing defensively. Defensively play is linked to field position not possession. I suspect the vast majority of play is happening in the middle third and the amount of time in each team's respective defensive thirds is likely equal. If this is the case, Utd are not playing defensively.

@A.r.m.e.n They certainly didn't deserve it with that performance. Woeful in attack - Nobody made runs at all until the match was basically over. They attacked but never took risks doing so. Only Ajax player who should feel proud of their performance was Sanchez.
I hope Ajax wins the EL. Young, strong and capable team, playing very attractive and attacking football. I hope they don't panic and play just the way they can. Another thing I really hope is that Mourinho won't park the bus and kill the game... I want to see quality final with good attacking football from both sides. Most likely United are going to somehow make it like they did with Anderlecht. But: 1) Ajax is just building up, and their team is way too young. It will be a huge test for them to be playing against more classy and more experienced opponent. 2) Although I am neutral, I want Ajax to win so much. After so much struggle, it seems like they are finally getting their game back. A club with such history deserves to make it. 3) United doesn't deserve to win sh*t this season. A team which spends 100 mil. on 1 player has no right to be that pathetic. And Mourinho died as a coach right after his win in CL with Inter. Justice will be served if they lose. If you actually think about it, a house is actually not a house. This is actually a really tough game to call and I wouldn't want to pick a winner. Exactly 2 or 3 goals @ 2.05 with a range of bookmakers covers a lot of the most likely scorelines.
Mourinho will make this a stodgy, attritional affair knowing that if it is an open game, there are literally 50 teams better than them (in attack), Ajax included. Having said that, in terms of getting opposition teams to play his type of game, he is the best in the world and maybe the best of all time. I can't remember many occasions where his team where the best, either in the league or in Europe save a couple of Chelsea title winning seasons, but his silverware record is excellent. He will not care if he wins this by playing like Salford City F.C despite the copious amounts of money spent on assembling the squad. He would be revered like Simeone if he wasn't such a scumbag and I would guess 90% of the neutrals would want Ajax to win. I would like Utd to win for the UEFA co-efficient points but wont be supporting them per se. I think it will be a boring draw in 90 minutes then Utd will nick it in extra time so 2-1 Utd AET.
